Volunteering empowers me to be a force for good
Today, as part of our Earth Week celebrations, we focus on our third ESG goal, Empowering our People, and hear from Bill Garcha, Senior Inventory Controller in our Global Supply Chain.
Bill lives in Kettering, where he and his wife Bal, work tirelessly to support the Midland Langar Seva Society (MLSS).? The charity was set up in the UK in 2013 to help those in need across the UK, providing hot food and drinks to those living on the street, in schools and safe houses, and those living on the poverty line.?
“I was born a Sikh and helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves, regardless of their social status is fundamental to our faith.? In 2017, my wife and I were asked to help set up MLSS Kettering, providing hot meals to homeless people in the area.? In 2020 we also started working with the Northamptonshire Children’s Trust, to deliver food parcels to 81 struggling families across the county; to-date we have provided 1200 hot meals and 1300 food parcels.?
“While most of my volunteering is done during evenings or weekends, having our two RS volunteering days give me greater flexibility without compromise, to do my charity work. Volunteering days empower us all to be a force for good in our communities.”?
