#1 “Trading down” to slower delivery hurting FedEx

Last week, FedEx reported earnings lower than previously expected, attributing the performance to low demand and customers opting more for slower Ground services.

FedEx’s “Network 2.0” initiative to consolidate Ground and Express into a single network has already helped curb losses by eliminating excess capacity. FedEx reported that network adjustments helped save $250 million during the quarter.

#3 USPS consolidation plans changed for 8 facilities

The USPS has reversed course on a plan to eliminate processing operations across 8 facilities after originally planning to consolidate them elsewhere.?

It’s the latest adjustment to their “Delivering for America” plan to overhaul operations and improve financial performance.

The USPS credits a recently-announced plan to slow rural deliveries for creating a path to continue operations at the facilities.
