volume 4: it’s not about us, but our future us

“I watch the ripples change their size, but never leave the stream."
- David Bowie

i learned early on from my grandpa that accountability is about everyone doing their part.? growing up as an immigrant, he always had an innate sense of respect for the shoulders he stood on, and felt accountable so that future generations could stand on his.

he arrived in the US with hardly anything in his pocket, entrepreneured his way from being a cook in the kitchen to one of the biggest real estate moguls in the sacramento valley. he was riding a high of the american dream when president JFK was assassinated. the real estate market plunged and he lost most of his material wealth. but even when he didn’t have much, he kept doing all he could to support new immigrants to get them on their feet.?

what i learned from my grandpa is that beyond happiness isn’t just about us, but about the future of us and our world...regardless of the highs and lows we experience in our personal journeys. if we see that our global society is the biggest village of them all, that makes companies and communities our modern day villages.?

and as members of them, we have a choice of whether we want to be bystanders or help each other build. beyond happiness is not just about us but our world and the generations to come.?

happiness isn’t about being optimistic, it’s about being opti-realistic?

i recently chatted with scott bedgood from trial & error about whether a cynic can find happiness. coming from being a past cynic and in a lot of ways, still a cynic, our idea of happiness changes. i found that when i was reframing what happiness was/is for myself it was important to think of beyond happiness, and the impact that i want to make on the world for generations to come.?

check out our conversation here.?

Pre-order beyond happiness now and get bonus content and the beyond happiness playbook.?
