The Cyber Resilience Act: Why Do We Need it? How Other Standards Interact With it and Step-by-Step Approach to Compliance...
The European Union (EU) is still working out some of the implementation details of the Cybersecurity Act (CSA) enacted in 2019. So, what was the rationale for passing yet another cybersecurity measure, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), in the spring of 2024?
The short answer: the CSA was never meant to be the endpoint.
Join Romain Tesniere, Avnet Silica's Solution Selling BDM for Connectivity & Security and expert in device security, management and provisioning as he explores:
Why Your Next Relay or Fuse Could Be a Transistor
Making and breaking connections is fundamental to applying electrical power to do mechanical work. The invention of devices that could be switched electronically changed everything. And when we worked out how to put multiple devices on a single substrate, everything changed, all over again. In fact, things haven’t stopped changing since.
But do transistor-based switches still have a place in the high-power domain? Of course, the answer is yes and the market for DC SSCBs is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 8% through 2030.
Join Philip Ling as he explores the?new 750 V SiC JFET designed for SSCBs from Qorvo, Inc. With devices like this now available, OEMs can develop solutions that take advantage of this growth.
Making More Efficient On-Board Chargers
The process to convert potential energy or stored electricity, into motive energy or motion is a big deal. This type of power conversion is what makes the move to electric vehicles (EVs) possible and the battery technology being developed for EVs is certainly impressive.
Choosing a supplier that has a complete OBC solution can be a real benefit. Better yet, if that supplier has already done a lot of the heavy lifting, then your solution could be optimised out-of-the-box.
Join Philip Ling as he explores a recent example of this, taking a closer look at the Microchip Technology Inc. 3.8 kW/7.6 kW dsPIC33C totem pole converter?and?11 kW dual active bridge DC-DC converter. Both of which are based on a?dsPIC33?digital signal controller and mSiC MOSFETs/diodes.
IoT Network Architecture: Design for Performance Security
Building an IoT application enables organisations to understand and manage their operations and assets to an extent and depth hitherto impractical or financially viable. As a driver of digital transformation, it brings opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity, reduce costs, create new services, and enhance value for customers and stakeholders.
On the other hand, the Internet also makes the connected assets visible remotely and therefore vulnerable to hackers interested in attacking them for various reasons. Hunters are constantly seeking targets and it’s said that any asset newly connected to the Internet will be subjected to an attack within minutes of going live.
A framework that describes the architecture in adequate detail can guide development by helping teams to make sure all the functional aspects are met and all security issues are handled properly. Learn more in the penultimate episode of our IoT Security Series.
One of the Coolest FPGA Technologies Around: AMD's DFX
"In typical embedded systems the hardware is fixed and function changes during runtime are implemented in software. This means that the hardware must support all features at all times. With FPGAs, only the needed hardware (logic) is implemented, unlike standard SoCs. Dynamic?Function eXchange (DFX) takes this flexibility even further with hardware time slicing. This means that part of the FPGA logic can, for example, function as an Ethernet controller and then, microseconds later, switch to a MIPI core."
Avnet Silica's Senior AI/ML and SoC Software Field Application Engineer, Marco Hoefle shared his thoughts with Hackster.io on the hottest FPGA technology around right now, AMD's DFX.
Read Marco's technical article where he uses the new Avnet Artix UltraScale+ Board (AU15P) as the hardware platform for this demonstration.
