How Will Matter Help us Meet the Smart Home Promise?
"The?'Smart Home'?has been hyped in the media since the term was first coined by The American Association of Home Builders in 1984. However, the idea goes back to 1975, with the introduction of the X10 communications protocol, which was designed for data communications over AC power lines in buildings. In recent years, Matter has taken the Smart Home concept much further. The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA, formerly the Zigbee Alliance), positions Matter as 'The Foundation for Connected Things' and describes it as an IP-based protocol to connect compatible smart home devices and systems, mobile apps and cloud services."

Defect Visual Inspection Using AI Enables Multiple Emerging Markets
"Machine vision is enabling many existing and emerging markets. Security, manufacturing and industrial automation all use machine vision and adding?artificial intelligence inferencing at the sensor provides many benefits. Industrial automation combines robotics with vision systems. The vision systems in these applications are typically separate functions providing position data to the robot. Adding AI to production vision systems could extend their capability. The closer integration of robotics with intelligent vision systems will lead to new and more capable industrial automation."

Smart Security for a Smart World
Consider this: a 2023 report by Gartner predicts that over 25% of all cyberattacks against businesses will involve IoT devices. That's a significant portion of security threats targeting these interconnected systems.
The consequences of lax digital security in the IoT world can be far-reaching. Data breaches can expose personal information, while compromised devices can be used to launch attacks on wider networks. In critical infrastructure, like power grids or transportation systems, security vulnerabilities can have devastating real-world consequences.
With experts in device provisioning and management, software security, Cyber Resilience Act compliance and much more, we're your complete security partner. Click on our services below to learn more.
One-Stop-Shop: The Value of Single Sourcing Obsolete Semiconductors
According to consultancy company?Oliver Wyman, an average of over 3,000 parts per car model will become obsolete every year.
Other sectors, such as power and space, suffer similar challenges too. Rapid access to hard-to-locate components from a trusted supplier can boost product longevity and avoid costly redesigns while easing the day-to-day concerns of procurement and maintenance professionals.
The collaboration between Avnet Silica and Rochester Electronics EMEA exemplifies how leveraging expertise and resources can provide comprehensive solutions to obsolescence issues, ultimately safeguarding the integrity and efficiency of critical systems and production lines.

How can Procurement Teams Navigate Sustainability in the Face of Global Climate Consciousness?
"Supply chains have historically been kept as lean as possible, to reduce costs and optimise efficiency. Techniques such as ‘just-in-time’ production gave companies a competitive advantage and boosted their profit margins. However, things have changed, and the short-term mindset that comes with just-in-time production no longer really works."
Laurence Dellicott, Senior Director, EMEA Supply Chain at Avnet Silica recently spoke to Procurement Pro, explaining how procurement teams can navigate sustainability in the face of global climate consciousness.
