Vol. 1, No.3 Why Most Podcasters Give Up and Quit

Vol. 1, No.3 Why Most Podcasters Give Up and Quit

#FunFact: Podcasts Can Be Educational and Entertaining for Pets: In 2019, Spotify launched "My Dog's Favorite Podcast," a podcast designed specifically for dogs left at home alone. The show features soothing voices, relaxing music, and other sounds intended to keep dogs company and alleviate anxiety. It's an example of how podcasts can cater to diverse audiences, including our furry friends.

Let’s take a few minutes and dive into the brutal reality of why so many aspiring podcasters throw in the towel once they've stepped into the podcasting arena.

Here are some completely DELUSIONAL things newer podcasters experience when they first get in the game…

  1. The "Get Rich Quick" Mirage:

Let's clarify something right from the start - podcasting is not a magical cash cow!

You do actually have to constantly show up and do the work (imagine that)

Your podcast can be a revenue generator but you need to BUILD relationships first.

NEWSFLASH: Unless you're already a household name, you won't be bidding your day job farewell anytime soon. So, if your sole motivation is the cheddar, you're setting yourself up for an early letdown.

2. The "No One's Listening" Blues:

Podcasters often give up when they don't see their listener numbers skyrocketing. Look, building an audience takes time, effort, and consistency.

You won't hit Joe Rogan status overnight (or maybe ever).

Instead of obsessing over stats, focus on delivering killer content that your niche audience craves and BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS!

3. The "Perfectionist Paralysis" Trap:

Some podcasters are so obsessed with perfection that they never hit the "publish" button. Another newsflash: Nobody's perfect!

Your early episodes will likely suck, but that's okay.

Embrace the suck, learn from it, and keep moving forward.

You'll get better with every episode. (Or at least that is the goal)

4. The "Burnout Express" Train:

Creating podcasts can be exhausting, especially if you're doing it all alone.

Many podcasters bite off more than they can chew, cranking out episodes weekly or even daily.

Burnout is inevitable at that pace.

MAJOR KEY: Instead, set a sustainable schedule that you can stick to long-term.

5. The "Lack of Passion" Syndrome:

Starting a podcast about a topic you're not genuinely passionate about is a COMPLETE recipe for disaster.

If you're only doing it because you think it's trendy or profitable, you'll lose interest fast.

Pick a subject that lights a fire in your belly, and your enthusiasm will be your secret weapon.

Okay, enough with the gloom and doom...

and they say everything we read on the internet is "gloom and doom"...

Here are some dynamic strategies to keep your podcasting journey on track and EXCITING! (get excited people)

***NOTE: Don't just read these, GO DO SOMETHING WITH THEM!

1. Find Your Unique Voice:

Don't just follow the herd. Dare to be different! Inject your personality, quirks, and authenticity into your podcast. Stand out like a flamingo in a flock of pigeons!

2. Build a Solid Content Calendar:

Plan your episodes in advance and stick to a schedule. Consistency is key, and your audience should know when to expect your fiery wisdom.

3. Embrace the Hustle:

Promote, promote, promote! (but don’t be so annoying that people tune you out) Use social media, email marketing, and word-of-mouth to spread the word about your podcast. Don't wait for people to find you; go out and grab their attention!

4. Connect with Your Audience:

Engage with your listeners. Reply to comments, answer their burning questions, and build a loyal community around your podcast. Let them know you're not just a voice in the ether but a real human with a fiery passion for your topic WILLING to help and engage with them.

5. Keep Learning and Growing:

The podcasting landscape is always evolving. Stay up-to-date with trends, technology, and best practices. Don't let your skills get rusty; keep refining your craft.

I hope this little dose of “podcast reality” and some clear-cut tips and strategies help!
