The Voices of Future Engineering Leaders - Meet Gabriel Joseph

I am excited for you to meet Gabriel Joseph, a sophomore at New York City College of Technology. I recently had the pleasure of interviewing him. Here is his interview...

Introduction of name and School or role

Hi, my name is Gabriel Joseph. I am currently a sophomore at New York City College of Technology or City Tech for short. I am the current Vice-President for our Mechatronics club and some of my roles include assisting the current President with day-to day operations and organizing events (currently preparing to have a field trip at Brooklyn Navy Yard)?

What about Engineering do you find exciting for your career path?

I like the idea of solving real world problems. I like seeing my ideas and thoughts come to life. Just the thought that something I came up with and designed can be drawn using any CAD software then either 3d printed or machined in a cnc machine gives me that feeling of joy.

How do you see your career contributing to the betterment of society?

At the gala, I was speaking with the past ASME president, Mr. Mahantesh Hiremath.? He said something to me that really stuck and resonated with me. He said, “Aspire to inspire before you expire.” To me, that meant we must try our best to encourage the next generation. I would like my career and work to inspire at least one person. I think that feeling of fulfilment to know I helped one person achieve their dream would make me happy.

What do you want your professors and future managers to know?

I would like for them to know I am very thankful for the guidance I have received from them. Each and every critique is an opportunity to learn and I welcome all. I would also like them to know that I am very grateful for the opportunity they have given to me and I will always appreciate it.

Shout out for mentors

I would like to give a big shout out to Prof Andy Zhang first and foremost for the opportunity and encouragement. I would also like to give a shout out to Prof Zayed Saleh and Prof Matrinez who always go that extra mile for us, their students. They have recently been taking some time away from their busy schedules to teach us how to use and operate the cnc machine.
