Voices From the SLSO Chorus

Have you noticed how musicians near and far have been banding together (pun intended) to create stories and musical ensembles while practicing social distancing? I've seen several videos featured on the national news over the past several weeks. Here's one you may not have seen from inside the St. Louis Symphony Chorus.

As a member of the Advisory Council, part of my responsibility is to share SLSO information in the greater St. Louis area and global community. What better way to so than social media?! I'm also a member of the SLSO Chorus and I think you'd enjoy a "peak behind the orchestra", where the chorus sits on stage during performances. I will periodically share chorus member community happenings. You may be so inspired that you'll consider auditioning to join us in the fall. We're always looking for voices, particularly in the Tenor and Bass section!

Things You Should Know About the SLSO

Our hearts are heavy with the decision to cancel all concerts and events through May 10. For a complete list of cancelations, please visit slso.org/concertupdate. You can support the SLSO by:

  1. donating the value of your tickets for any canceled concerts back to the SLSO.
  2. making a gift
  3. subscribing to the SLSO 2020/2021 season

I'm pleased to invite you to watch this heartfelt video Message from SLSO Music Director, Stéphane Denève.

Voices from the SLSO Chorus

Below are a few SLSO links and voices from the Chorus I hope you enjoy.

  1. Interview with triple GRAMMY-award winning musician, and SLSO Creative Director, Tim Munro and Chorus Director, Amy Kaiser. It includes some cool photos she has in her personal collection.
  2. A few chorus members recently shared their wonderful voices on social media. You can find many more 'at home videos' and other Symphony recordings posted at the SLSO at Home site. I recognize and appreciate Dan Brodsky, Shelley Ragan, Mark Saunders, and Phil Touchette for sharing their vocal talents with us!

Virtual SLSO Chorus Serenade to Amy

On March 23, our devoted and beloved Amy Kaiser celebrated her birthday. Under normal circumstances, the Chorus would sing a beautiful rendition of "Happy Birthday" during rehearsal that week. Of course, Powell Hall is closed and all rehearsals have been cancelled.

Thankfully, even in the midst of this pandemic, Chorus Manager, Susan Patterson, was not deterred. She coordinated the creation of our Chorus singing with piano accompaniment by Gail Hintz. This was our virtual "birthday serenade" for Amy. Although I was unable to participate in the video, I'm sharing it with you to give us all the gift of music. Enjoy and Happy 'Belated' Birthday to Amy!

There are many wonderful online SLSO resources to keep music alive while Powell Hall is closed. Visit www.slso.org or www.facebook.com/saintlouissymphony/ to stay connected. Music will always find a way to bring us together!

Well done! Is hoping to see and hear you and your lovely voice linked in the article. Did I miss something?
