That Voice In Your Head

That Voice In Your Head

Do you hear that voice in your head?

The one that talks to you all the time?

Everyone has it. You're not weird or crazy.

That voice can make our life difficult when it wants to.

It makes us think a lot of crazy things, especially late at night.

That Voice Is Not You!

One thing to keep in mind about that voice is that voice is not you - you’re the one listening to it.

If that was you, you’d have some sort of control over it. It wouldn't talk you down in meetings when you want to share your ideas.

If that voice was you, you could shut it up at two in the morning, when you want to get back to sleep.

If it was you, it would have your best interests at heart.

The voice is not you. Stop listening to it.

Darren i believe this is not correct. That voice can be many things.. encouraging us to take risks, intuition, warning us of danger and both the nurturing and critical parent. Getting rid of it is NOT the goal but rather understanding, listening to it's message or examining it's roots if non helpful.

Interesting indeed isn't it. So is that why we have all become our own form of Guru? Wizards of the world only we see? I am a great fan of Marcus Aurelius, Voltaire and adore his character Candite. Thank you for reminding me of David's work, after a decade of reading over 6000 references and exploring the topic of Consciousness you are clearly and intuitive man to go directly to the heart of my passion. David's matrix and map of consciousness offers a great introduction to the topic of dualistic thinking and non dualistic thinking but I find his beliefs about events and happenings being arbitrary in the mind of the observer is only half the truth. I am not sure what your thoughts are about half truths but let's just say some might call them lies while others might suggest they are fallacious and yet others simply accept them without critical thought . I'd suggest they are all of those characterisations depending on one's perspective. Study of the unknown ontology of consciousness often gets stuck on the deductive reasoning component or explores the idea through narratives of spirituality and many of them are very attractive because they offer simple stories to explain complex problems humanity has faced for Centuries.

Actually Darren, not everyone has an inner voice and that fact has far reaching implications. Think about it, what kind of morality does a person with no inner voice have? What kind of self reflection are they even capable of? Do some research on the topic, it is mind boggling that they can even speak at all or learn anything. FYI despite growing up in Australia and being born here my inner voice has an Irish Accent. I kid you not. Time to reflect on how this blank silent Mind set could even function. Funnily, I heard three TV presenters talking about the research and one said they don't have an inner voice and the other two said, don't be crazy and he replied, you two are the ones telling me you have voices in your head and you think I'm crazy? Really? FYI 100% True story.
