Voice enabled AI systems for healthcare delivery

In the last one month, I came across two health-tech products who have been working on voice-enabled artificial intelligence systems to make care providers efficient. Let me share them with you.

At HLTH 2018 conference, Notable Health (https://notablehealth.com/) launched a voice-powered wearable assistant app for physicians, on Apple Watch. Their CEO Pranay Kapadia started when his wife, a physician, came home and said she hated her job because of the amount of time doctors in the US have to spend on documentation rather than spending time with their patients. In the Notable Health app, a physician can simply speak during the consultation, and the app records it, create lab orders, prescription and more. The microphone captures information even if the doctor’s wrist is down at his or her side. It is HIPAA-compliant which integrates with the EHR so that the data gets entered directly.

Another interesting health-tech startup in the similar field is Suki.ai (https://www.suki.ai/) by Punit Soni - Ex-CPO of Flipkart. Suki is a digital assistant that helps care providers take care of their patients better by offloading most of their administrative work. It is personalized to each doctor, which gets smarter as they use it, and is easy to implement – integrating with doctors’ current EHR systems. The device records everything that a doctor is saying, process it, and figure out what is important to go in a patient’s documentation. Each doctor has a different way of documentation, hence scalability will be an interesting challenge for them to solve.

PregBuddy (a health-tech product aimed at transforming the maternal healthcare space) was recently invited to Google I/O 2018. We were super fascinated when Google unveiled how their voice-enabled artificial intelligence systems (https://youtu.be/bd1mEm2Fy08) can do in our daily lives to get things done.

Massive improvements in the field of speech recognition technology and machine learning is presenting exciting opportunities where healthcare focused AI systems can make the care providers much more efficient, remove the cumbersome data entry or documentation processes, allow seamlessly entry of patients' data, get richer insights, and spend more time on what they do best - take care of their patients. It will be exciting to see how AI systems and especially voice-enabled ones can transform the healthcare systems in the coming years.

We, at PregBuddy, are taking babysteps towards using artificial intelligence to improve the medical outcomes in the maternal healthcare space. If you've any opinion or aware of more health-tech products solving with voice & AI, please do share in the comments below.
