Vodafone Germany Expands 5G SA Network, Covering Half the Population

In a significant milestone, German operator Vodafone has achieved widespread coverage with its 5G Standalone (5G SA) network. As of now, approximately half of the population in Germany is connected to Vodafone’s cutting-edge 5G infrastructure.

Here are the key highlights of Vodafone’s recent network expansion efforts:

• Construction Projects

• Vodafone completed over 1,200 construction projects within the first quarter of 2024. These projects involved the deployment of new mobile phone base stations and the installation of additional antennas for LTE, 5G, and 5G SA at nearly 1,100 locations across the country.
• Eliminating Dead Spots:

• The carrier proactively addressed existing LTE dead spots and worked to prevent new ones. A total of 170 measures were implemented to enhance network coverage and ensure seamless connectivity.
• 5G SA Expansion: Nearly 40% of the construction work during the first three months of 2024 focused on expanding Vodafone’s 5G SA network. As a result, around half of Germany’s population now enjoys the benefits of this advanced network.
• Weather Boos

• The network expansion was further accelerated by favorable weather conditions, particularly in March 2024. During that month, Vodafone completed mobile communications projects at over 550 locations, adding a total of 67 new mobile phone stations to its network.
• Impressive Reach

• With these recent additions, Vodafone’s mobile network has grown to over 25,000 radio stations across Germany, achieving an impressive coverage rate of 99.9% of the population.

Vodafone initially launched its 5G SA network in 2022, collaborating with partners such as Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm, and Oppo. Frequencies in the 3.6 GHz, 1.8 GHz, and 700 MHz bands have been leveraged for 5G expansion in urban, suburban, and rural areas.
