VMware Thin Provisioning

Thin provisioning is a storage method that only allocates the space a host requires, preventing waste and overprovisioning. It was developed by Data Core in 2002 and has three options for allocation in VMware vSphere and vSAN: LazyZeroedThick, EagerZeroedThick, and Thin. Each option has different characteristics, with Thin being the fastest and most efficient. It is important to understand the tradeoffs when using thin provisioning with storage array-based thin provisioning.
