VMware EUC rebrands as Omnissa, managed service providers focus on sustainability

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the 58th edition of this weekly newsletter.

Before we get into the details about the key developments of this past week, a quick reminder that I am working on my 2024 ISG Provider Lens report on the digital workplace and Future of Work services and solutions. We are talking to multiple service and technology providers to understand their capabilities. If your firm or you know of any firm that qualifies for any of the evaluation areas we cover this year, please contact me.

For services:

For solutions:

Let's dive into the past week's coverage.

End User Technology

Amazon WorkSpaces Web launched two new instances

Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched two new instances capable of running high workloads. More details here:

Now, there are three instances offered by Amazon WorkSpaces Web. The most costly one is, of course, the one that supports audio-video content, which will be the most important for the end user base. Accessing a DaaS solution via a browser is the second most popular choice among virtual desktop clients, according to the State of EUC Report 2022. Amazon WorkSpaces Web's focus on offering different levels of capabilities for supporting diverse content is aimed to address those clients' requirements.

Workspot has a new CEO

Workspot, Inc announced that it has a new CEO, Brad Tompkins More details here:

Brad joined Workspot Leadership last year in August as COO, and we covered that in the Newsletter. An ex-IGEL, Tompkins has a huge amount of experience in dealing with partners and sales, especially in North America. Workspot is expected to benefit a lot under his leadership. Also worth noticing is the fact that the founder Amitabh Sinha will be working on integrating AI/ML capabilities in the Workspot solution. Workspot is offering VDI monitoring solutions as well, and with the inclusion of AI capabilities, it will offer strong value for its clients.

VMware EUC becomes Omnissa

VMware announced that its EUC division will be called Omnissa. More details here:

While there is a lot effort that went in on deciding this name, not sure what it really means. An astronomical study called OmniSSA (Omnidirectional Space Situational Awareness) studies Earth's orbital environment. We can correlate it with the different technologies around the end-users that enable them to work. What would be more interesting is to see how clients and partners react to the other changes related to Horizon, vSphere etc.

Managed Workplace Services

NTT DATA brings sustainable Device-as-a-Service offering

NTT DATA announced a new Device-as-a-Service offering in partnership with HP focused on sustainability. More details here:

Sustainable device lifecycle management and circular economy focus are increasingly becoming important for digital workplace service providers. Clients in Europe are more interested in this value add compared to other geographies, although NTT DATA is stronger in the Americas.

Lenovo introduces LISSA

Speaking of sustainability solutions, 联想 introduced LISSA (Lenovo Intelligent Sustainability Advisor) for carbon footprint reduction and broad sustainability goals. More details here:

It looks like a great solution where Lenovo leverages AI to predict carbon emissions by different products. The solution doesn't restrict itself to only Lenovo devices but also extends to Lenovo services for packaging, asset management and shipping solutions.

Staying with Lenovo, it also announced a new partnership with Kasm Technologies to provide its secured workspace solution over its devices. More details here:

Lenovo advances strongly towards becoming a provider of choice for Device as a Service offering by partnering with diverse solutions vendors. Great addition for Kasm Technologies.

Collaborative and Connected Work

Google Workspace updates

谷歌 shared a number of updates to its Workspace solution. You can find details here:

The ability to switch devices between calls is a useful feature, which was surprisingly missing from Google Workspaces. The most important feature announced recently was interoperability between collaboration solutions, Slack to Google Workspace to Microsoft Teams. This is the future. It would be more interesting to see how the individual co-pilots of AI assistants interoperate.

Google also announced the integration of Google Keep notes into Google Tasks. More details here:

This is where Google Keep always belonged, TBH!

That's all for the week, folks. Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments. Please feel free to share the newsletter with anyone you think would be interested in the content.

Thank you so much for your support!
