Viz-Ovalz? Direct Vizion System - Moving Off Information System - A Drivers Solution To Transport for London's Direct Vision Standard
Jock Boyle
Founder @ VIZ-OVALZ? Limited Creator of the Revolutionary Retrofittable Direct Vizion System, (UN R167)
The question that I'm most frequently asked by Operators and Owners of Fleets when I've been promoting our revolutionary, affordable, retrofittable and easy to self-instal -
Viz-Ovalz? Direct Vizion System - Moving Off Information System (MOIS) is -
Q - "Does the Viz-Ovalz? (Vision-Ovals) DVS MOIS meet Transport for London 's Direct Vision Standard-2 HGV Permit Scheme, Progressive Safe System?"
A - Quite simply - Yes - They are the only direct vizion system that addresses the blind spot problem, Enabling Drivers to prioritise, avoid or react to pedestrians, cyclists and vulnerable road users in close proximity to the vehicle.
The Viz-Ovalz? DVS was?developed as a retrofittable?Moving Off Information System that not only meets the criteria of the UN R159 & DVS2 PSS but exceeds it, taking into consideration all the rules and regulations. The sensors expand the direct vision, mitigating the blind spots, naturally alerting the drivers, giving them a direct signal with instantaneous reaction times to the pedestrians, cyclists and VRU's, in close proximity to the vehicle.
Enabling Drivers to prioritise, avoid or react to pedestrians, cyclists and vulnerable road users in close proximity to the vehicle.
Viz-Ovalz? expand the Drivers peripheral vision, restore the legally required uninterrupted horizontal visual field of at least 160 degrees with an extension of at least 70 degrees left and right and 30 degrees up and down.
No Distractions, No False Alarms, No Adding to Reaction Times or Cognitive Load that in comparison the Progressive Safe Systems (sensors & cameras) that are indirect vision devices and technologies to alert drivers to VRU's obscured by the blind spots, these are prone to malfunction and false alarms, need constant updating, calibrating and regular maintenance, drivers stop reacting to them and given the opportunity will turn them off.
For those of you that may not know about TfL's DVS and the significant impact it has had in improving road safety, This is the reasoning behind it.
The "Direct Vision Standard", (DVS2021) as its name suggests, is designed to improve the driver visibility of all #pedestrians and #cyclists. In studies this has been proved to be the single most important factor in increasing their safety.
MEPs and EU governments have agreed a new life-saving measure that will drastically reduce deadly blind-spots in trucks and buses, enabling their drivers to better see pedestrians and cyclists. The World’s First ‘direct vision’ standard – under the EU’s revised General Safety Regulation – will help avoid many road collisions by improving the design of new vehicles and not forcing drivers to rely on technology like sensors and cameras to know what’s around them.
Since Transport for London implemented the Direct Vision Standard HGV Permit Scheme, they have seen a reduction of road fatalities in London of 60% whereas the rest of the UK has only achieved a 12% reduction since it's introduction.?(Why the difference? A - It's only in force in London)
Q - What is Transport for London (TFL) Direct Vision Standard (DVS) HGV Permit Scheme?
A - TFL introduced the DVS HGV Permit Scheme, to identify and categorise HGVs depending on the level of a driver's direct vision from a cab. TFL’s vision is to ensure there are 0 accidents, a target of Vision Zero.
The Problem
Drivers can't prioritise, avoid or react to #pedestrians, #cyclists and #vulnerable road users, obscured by the vehicle structures - A-Pillars, Mirrors, Monitors and Bodies, that impose "Tunnel Vision", ?
HGVs are given a rating between 'zero-star' (lowest) and 'five-star' (highest), with only those vehicles rated 'three-star and above, or which have comprehensive progressive safe systems fitted able to operate in London. (A World First)
TFL’s vision is to ensure there are 0 accidents, and therefore have introduced the next legal requirement for Heavy Goods Vehicles over 12 tonnes in London. Vehicles will be required to implement a “progressive safe system” (PSS) and achieve a 3-star rating by October 28th 2024.
As an HGV Driver I've been dealing with the vehicle design structure Blind Spots (A-Pillars, Mirrors and bodies) for nearly 30 years, I've experienced countless near misses and witnessed fatalities, serious injuries and Failed to See collisions due to the restricted vision and the Drivers not being able to see the #pedestrians, #cyclists or #vulnerable road users in close proximity to their vehicles. I was compelled to develop a solution to the "Imposed Tunnel Vision" problem,
I created the Viz-Ovalz? Direct Vizion System - Moving Off Information System (MOIS)
VIZ-OVALZ??(Vision-Ovals)
A Direct Vizion System - Blind Spot Sensors for the front proximity of Vehicles ,
A Moving Off Information System (MOIS) that naturally alerts your drivers to pedestrians, cyclists and vulnerable road users previously obscured in the blind spots.
A revolutionary Moving Off Information System ?that corrects the vehicle design “Imposed Tunnel Vision” eliminating the blind spots,
Enhancing and improving your drivers Hazard Perception.
Viz-Ovalz? DVS range from £100 - £200 per vehicle,
In contrast to Progressive Safe Systems? (PSS), (sensor and camera technologies)? that are required to meet TfLs 3*star Direct Vision Standard,
The Viz-Ovalz? DVS can’t be matched in simplicity, reliability, affordability or performance.
Viz-Ovalz? DVS? naturally and? effectively addresses the problem of the imposed tunnel vision, without adding to drivers reaction times or cognitive load,
We are seeking pre-seed funding to get production started, to carry out trialing and testing on a larger scale,?
