It was pleasant to see that it is not all doom and gloom when it comes to the world of Television. It has been so damn gloomy for some time, with the media proclaiming that the business of TV is dead. Then this batch of news came in this week:
- UHD drives record profits for LG
- Mediaset sees record profit
- Orange triples TV subs
- TV viewers don’t skip ads
- Facebook up 186% YoY, ‘video is everything’
- Sky revenues up 7%
While there is also the smattering of bad news it was still nice to know that Television remains a fundamental product for the population of the planet. No matter the transmission medium there is still a desire to be entertained, informed and educated. The quality of TV is improving and we are no longer complaining that there is nothing to watch. The movie industry still brings us great stuff, documentaries abound, reality shows hang on in there, quizzes everywhere, news and more for the masses. So as I peel myself away from my office chair to finally enjoy the summer, I will sit by the seaside on my well earned vacation, and raise a glass of chilled rosé to all my fellow colleagues, industry 'frenemies' and thank all our customers for their fidelity. Vive la Television ...
