ViVE 2023 Day 1: Top 3 Takeaways
?? ViVE Day 1 ? Top 3 takeaways:
**Gun violence continues to be a systemic issue that cannot be ignored, as it is the number one cause of death in children in the U.S., according to the CDC, outpacing disease and cancer. Together, CHIME and HLTH have both committed a combined $50,000 donation on behalf of ViVE for the victims and their families of today’s tragic Covenant School shooting. In addition, ViVE has launched a GoFundMe page for conference attendees and the healthcare community at large to support the families impacted. 100% of all funds collected will be donated directly to designated relief funds. 1?? Digital transformation is about the bottom line. It’s a buzz phrase, yes. It’s also a revenue strategy, and one that can no longer be put on a 5-year roadmap.
"As healthcare organizations living in a digital age, we have to think like digital companies and move away from the brick and mortar theology. We have to stop viewing technology as a cost center and instead as a strategy initiative. We’re saving lives, we should be leading innovation." - Michael Archuleta , CIO, Mt. San Rafael Hospital and Clinics
How to make "digital transformation" less of a buzz phrase? Ashis Barad MD , CDIO, Allegheny Health Network , defines digital transformation using the “5Es": Experience, engagement, empowerment, efficacy, and —earnings—. "As healthcare systems, we are struggling. Digital solutions need to be financially sustainable. Digital transformation is about standardizing processes and personalizing content. Don’t pit those two against each other," he said.
2?? Workforce experience is in the spotlight. The WHO estimates a shortfall of 10 million health workers overall by 2030. Many healthcare organizations are managing the shortfall with contract workers at a higher rate, which is making current financial headwinds even worse.?As a result of the shortage, patients are at risk of dangerous gaps in care.?Our healthcare workforce is burnt out, and technology is partially to blame. How do we help solve this?

“Go zero distance. We must be workforce-informed. Develop technology side-by-side with clinicians and be agile with end-users.” - Sandeep Dadlani , Chief Digital & Technology Officer, UnitedHealth Group .
Amazon Web Services announced its?2023 Healthcare Accelerator: Global Cohort for Workforce, a technical, business, and mentorship program to help startups advance their digital health solutions and accelerate their growth using the cloud. These startups offer solutions the healthcare industry needs in three core areas: retention, deployment, and training. “One of the great things about tech solutions like these are the ripple effects. When providers can do their jobs more efficiently, patients also benefit, in terms of access to care, their overall experience, and ultimately their outcomes.” - Angela Shippy MD , Senior Physician Executive, Amazon Web Services (AWS)
3?? The desire for interoperability and consumerism (and how they play together) is bigger than ever before. Patients want access to their data. Providers want access to patient data. Providers want to give a consumer-level experience to patients. How does this all come together??
“We need to break the silos of technology. We all come from a world in which we designed for closed systems. We need to shift our thinking. We need to think in open systems, systems designed for collaboration. These systems need to be connected and the silos broken, working in a seamless manner. We have a lot of technology; we’re continuously bringing new technology to the floor; how do we make sure the technologies work together? And how do we make sure the technology is used? We have to think in terms of interoperability.” - Roy Jakobs , CEO, 飞利浦
Favorite quote of the day:?“If you work in healthcare, you have a new CEO: the patient. That’s the bottom line. - Michael Archuleta , CIO, Mt. San Rafael Hospital and Clinics
