Viva VINEXPO Bordeaux 2019!
Since everybody has been digging the Bordeaux fair's grave early, I wanted to express something different.
I noticed a lot of the importers I work with (or I know) wouldn't visit Bordeaux this year.
It makes sense, you can't be running in fairs all year long: Vinexpo, Prowein, Vinitaly, Wine Paris, London Wine Fair etc. The proposal is, as noticed, too wide, and widening...
For us, average Champagne House, Vinexpo Bordeaux 2019 has been GREAT!
It seems the "big boys" not coming have left space to smaller importers. We met some players on markets we wouldn't think of: Ivory Coast, Latvia, Thailand, Romania... We're talking about smaller volumes, but smaller competition also.
Vinexpo Bordeaux 2019 has had 1.600 exhibitors against 7.000 for PROWEIN 2019... 7.000! Scary numbers. Attendees will soon probably need some kind of cross-fit physical training to survive the fair!
Did PROWEIN bring more business to us? Can't tell yet but it's not my feeling. Does a wine professional need 7.000+ exhibitors to find what he is looking for? Does an exhibitor need to have 100 look-alike wineries in the same fair? Is the dilution compensated by the number of attendees?
These are fair questions to be asked. I'd be happy to hear your point of view and the way you manage your Fair Budgets.
Cheers!
