Vitilgo - why hide?

Vitiligo, commonly known as white spots or "safed daag," has been known to humankind for a long time. Many taboos are attached to this otherwise harmless disease. It is an auto-immune disease in which the body's immune system starts treating the melanocyte cells as foreign bodies and destroying them. I had this since the age of 5 or so... I don't even remember how long. With my constant struggle around Vitilgo and dealing with people issues due to my low morale, I have learnt only one thing....that you need to accept yourself first. Once you start accepting yourself, no magic will happen. But everyone will start accepting you because you accepted yourself as you are! You stop caring about what others are thinking; you are so comfortable in your skin, you do what you love and enjoy the small moments of life, and life loves you back! I have been fortunate to deal with myself first, which changed other people's perspectives. I urge anyone reading this to go out and be yourself. It's just your skin; the real you is beneath that skin. The person who wants to make friends wants a life and wants to enjoy and have fun. Go ahead; grab that chance, as no one else will hand that happiness to you on a platter. All in all, be yourself and love yourself. :)
