Vital Skills We Need

To help explain each of the skills, I’d like you to picture yourself as someone wanting to learn how to play guitar...

1. Focus

To successfully learn how to play guitar you must develop the necessary focus. Without the ability to focus, you’ll quickly lose interest in learning guitar - especially as the first few weeks can be hellish!

All things in life are like this. Focus keeps us on track to achieve our goals.

2. Motivation

Do you really want to play guitar? There’s a difference between dreaming and genuinely wanting something. If you’re stuck in dream mode, you’ll never find the required motivation. But, if you have a burning desire to learn guitar, you’ll soon be hitting the right notes.

Motivation is an absolute essential for playing and winning the game of life.

3. Creativity

Everyone is creative--even if you don’t think of yourself as such. While creativity can manifest itself in many forms, playing a musical instrument is definitely one of the more common ways to unleash your creative and artistic side.

When you first begin to learn guitar, you’ll stick to what your tutor tells you, but once you reach a certain level of proficiency, you’ll be able to branch out on your own. This might be improvising guitar solos or even writing your first songs.

Creativity allows you to think outside the box and come up with ideas and solutions that others may never consider. It’s also a healthy outlet that helps you release the stresses and strains of everyday life.

4. Learning

Without the ability and desire to learn, you’ll struggle to get past the beginner’s stage of guitar playing. The trick is to WANT to learn. When you have this type of mentality, learning will cease to be a pain - and will actually become a pleasure!

And, the best part of enjoying learning? You’ll be forever expanding your mind, your skills and your life experiences. You’ll also stay one step ahead of the competition in whatever you do.

5. Memory

To be proficient at any musical instrument, you’ll find yourself needing to rely on your memory. For example, with guitar, you’ll need to remember the shape of chords, the positioning of scales, and eventually whole tunes and songs. Fortunately, practice makes perfect, and you’ll find that you can quickly sink things into your memory, allowing them to become automatic for you.

Memory will serve you well in all areas of your life. From speaking confidently without notes, to remembering the names of hundreds of colleagues, memorization can make the difference between failure and success.

6.Time Management

Learning to play guitar takes time. Typically, you’d need to practice for at least an hour per day for one month before you could start to play some basic songs. However, to achieve this, you’d need to find time in your daily schedule to commit to this amount of study.

Life is like this in general. If you don’t know how to manage your time - time will manage you (and usually not in a good way!).

7. Habits

The secret to transforming yourself from a beginner to an accomplished guitar player is to turn your learning into a habit. For instance, make it a habit to learn new techniques, scales and songs, etc.

Habits typically take a month or so to develop, so you’ll need to find the willpower to push yourself through that time period. But once you’ve done it, habits will then become automatic, and you’ll no longer need to expend the same amount of time or energy to achieve the same results.

To summarize this email, your life is essentially a series of trends, which are either going in negative or positive directions. But it’s important to remember that transforming your life isn’t about one-off, sudden changes.

Real positive change is made by creating new and sustainable trends in your life.
