A vital dose of optimism

A vital dose of optimism

What an inspiring final pair of events we've had for this year!

Against the backdrop of a government that is thumbing its nose at the world's first global climate agreement to actually mention coal and fossil fuels, insisting that coal and gas will have a long term future, we had a brilliant discussion about what we've achieved before and may be on the cusp of achieving again to tackle the climate crisis.

Against the backdrop of a government determined to divide us into deserving and undeserving, lifters and leaners, forcing those excluded from the mainstream labour economy to jump through demeaning hoops to get below-the-poverty-line income support, we had a wonderful conversation about the real possibility of making welfare unconditional.

It was excellent to see so many of you joining us live for these events. For those who missed out, or were there and want to watch back, you can now stream them on our website:

  • Celebrating and planning climate action, marking the 10th anniversary of the Clean Energy Act, is here;
  • The launch of Unconditionally: COVID response and the future of welfare is here.

The best antidote to feeling down about the state of the world is to get active, so I hope you're all energised by these webinars, and how they show that, in both cases, we've done it before and can do it again. All it takes is our action!

All the best,

Tim
