The UN Sustainable Development Goals

The UN Sustainable Development Goals were agreed to by all 178 nations that form the UN. These goals have the aim of providing a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.?

As a company, we believe we have a duty to work towards these goals, and as such we have mapped our potential contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Given our purpose and values, and the products we produce, we are already largely aligned with the desired outcomes.

Our primary contribution is through goals 12 (responsible consumption and production) and 13 (climate action) as we progress on the circular economy, materials efficiency, packaging reductions, and energy conservation measures.

Our Secondary contributions are through goals 3 (health and well-being), 5 (gender equality), and 8 (work and economic growth) as wherever we operate, we are making progress in improving employee health, safety, and wellbeing alongside positive contributions to supply chain management and community involvement.

Safety across The Vita Group

Learning from each other is one of the many ways we promote health and safety across The Vita Group.

We have a wonderful team of SHE professionals who work tirelessly to make all our sites safe places to work. One of the ways our safety teams work collaboratively is through group-wide quarterly meetings, where each site representative talks about their best practice.

Allan Wild SHE Risk Manager UK and France explains: “We work closely as a team across the group, to learn from each other, the meetings we have each quarter are essential to this as they give us time to work as a team to see if we can do things differently and improve safety for all colleagues.”

Safety is our number one priority. We take a proactive approach to increasing safe behaviours. One of our latest improvements is sharing safety information via our bulletin system. Three types of bulletins are circulated across the business.

Allan explains further: “We have a system of red, amber, and green bulletins that are used to highlight items/areas of concern and to share learnings and best practices. Vita prides itself on being a learning organisation and the bulletin system facilitates this by providing a platform for us to share information and develop not just at a site level but across the whole group”.

Innovation within the furniture industry

The roundtable event and the launch of our first sustainability report created opportunities to connect with other companies and discuss in detail how we are using innovation to work in a more sustainable and circular way. It also gave us the chance to showcase our sustainable products.

Highlighting the benefits of our Orbis and Origin ranges during the event cemented for John Lewis that we are moving in a direction that is right for the environment and right for their customers.
