Visual Models Are For Thinking and Sharing

My newest course here on LinkedIn Learning is about Concept Visualization. That's when you create a visual of a complex or abstract idea that is NOT data-driven. In this month's episode of this series, I'm talking about a similar idea: visual models.

I love visual thinking. I've done it my whole life. But when I was a kid, I never would have called myself a "visual thinker" because it was so innate and natural to me that I didn't realize I was doing it. And only later did I find out that, really, we're all visual thinkers. Humans are visual beings. We think visually. Some more than others, sure...but we all do it.

If you can further develop these skills you already have, you'll be able to develop more creative and innovative ideas, and then you'll be able to communicate those ideas more effectively to others.

Lesson: Visual Models

In this lesson, I define what a visual model is and share a couple examples of them and how we use them. Just hearing the examples, I think, is a great place to start learning to develop these skills. It will feel familiar, and will help you identify when you're already doing it, which will allow you to activate this activity in yourself the next time you need to.

Listen: Visual Models with Andrew Davis

Andrew Davis is an old friend who I've witnessed develop visual models for some really big ideas. Once he's brainstormed using a model, he refines and tweaks and perfects (and "aerates") them and presents them as a very successful public speaker. Listen to how he came to do it, the process he follows, and how useful they can be in a creative/professional life!

Because I'm just like Mr. Drew there when it comes to notes, I need to get one of those digital notepad things that feel like paper. I'll be unstoppable!
