Runners off marks

Heads bowed - arms pumping

Maintaining form

Respecting lanes

Off to deliver

"See, I care," cards

With plush sentiments

Offered as tickets

Of admission

To endure

And witness

Solemn postures held

For bedside eternities

Poor, suffering fools

Unsure whether or not

To take off their jackets
