Visiting Cary...

Earlier this year, I visited our Tech Center in Cary, US. It was fantastic to meet with the teams and dive into people, business and technology discussions. Here are a few of my highlights:

Women in Tech and Nology. Our colleagues showcased the activities and initiatives that advance women in tech. The Cary tech centre runs a program the Nology tech accelerator program that is designed to fill the gap in digital skills by providing an opportunity to retrain as a Software Engineer regardless of your technical background or current career path. Building a diverse workforce is critical to the success of the bank because we need different perspectives and backgrounds as we design solutions and digital interactions for our broad client base. The sessions also served to remind us that while lots is being done, there is still a long way to go.

Open mic. An open Q&A with our graduates who discussed everything from career pain points to flexibility to exploring roles beyond tech. If you want a glimpse of the future, talk to people starting out their careers. It is inspiring to see their zeal, passion and openness. The future is bright indeed!

All Cary Team Connect. An All Hands Connect Session with the Cary workforce, like no other! Discussions ranged from the current technology environment, globally and locally, to optimizing developer work environments, Cary was charged! I loved the ideas on simplification, appreciation, on using data.

Employee sessions remain at the heart of what I do. Hearing various groups, with various demographics was important for me because it reiterated the need to constantly connect with team members and hear their perspectives. I’ve always believed that change begins on the floor with employees! Their ideas, their challenges, their needs, their successes drive us to have conversations to make the changes that keep us relevant.

So, Cary, here’s to you! Thank you for a wonderful trip and don’t forget to keep the conversations going.??
