Visit us during the Week of Open Source Hardware, June 11-14 Zurich
This summer, ETH Zürich with the help of FOSSI foundation, the RISC-V foundation, Eurolab4HPC and OPRECOMP EU H2020projects, and many volunteers will organize a week of activities based around open source hardware. We call this WOSH: Week of Open Source Hardware.
June 10th is a public holiday in Zurich, so this will allow people to arrive and enjoy Zurich to start the week. Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th will be covered by the official RISC-V Workshop of the RISC-V foundation. I was serving in the program committee for the workshop and we really had a tough job trying to squeeze in and select a program from over 90 submissions (I will have done my job reasonably well if everyone is equally unhappy about the selection:). This first part of the week will need paid registration through the RISC-V foundation. The program is single track, and will be held in a room for 300 people. We are still fine tuning the details, and hope to announce the program, yet there are already more than 40 registrations, and we think at this pace, it will sell out. So if you are interested, maybe it is not a bad idea to book your place.
The RISC-V Workshop also includes a "members only" day for working group meetings following the two public days. This will take place on Thursday the 13th. The FOSSI foundation will organize a series of events on Thursday the 13th in parallel to the membership meetings, and will continue with activities on Friday the 14th rounding out the second part of the week. These events will be free of charge to attend, still we would like to ask people to register so that we can plan the event (rooms large enough for the attendees, enough coffee, and if we have enough support maybe a nice dinner). We are still working on the details of the program, but we plan to have the following sessions with invited talks on the following four tracks:
- Thursday 13th morning: Open Source Licensing
- Thursday 13th afternoon: Challenges and opportunities for using Open Source Hardware in the academia and in the industry (organized by the Eurolab4HPC project)
- Friday 14th morning: The path towards high quality FOSSi IP
- Friday 14th afternoon: Open Source EDA Tools
We will complement these talks, with hands on tutorials by various teams PULP, OpenPiton, Greenwaves, Open-ISA.org and Myriad RF. You can find the up to date program on the FOSSI webpage, as well as some travel tips for Zurich on the PULP platform webpage.
In short, with the help of the FOSSI foundation, we hope to provide an attractive program for people interested in open source hardware in Zurich this June. Do not forget to register (both to RISC-V workshop and FOSSI events) and make your travel plans early, as available rooms and prices in Zurich generally do not tend get friendlier over time. Note that there will be plenty of attractive events, with plenty of opportunity to network following the official RISC-V workshop until the end of the week. Also if you want to support FOSSI foundation, which is working to keep the second part of the event for free, they are still looking for sponsorships for the event.
I hope to be able to welcome many of you in Zurich this June. For those who can not make it, we will try our best to post on our popular twitter channel @pulp_platform during WOSH to let you know what is going on.
