A Visit to Roosevelt Island

On a chilly and gloomy ?? Saturday morning in the Big ?? Apple, I canceled my scheduled jog up in Harlem and instead headed downstairs to the gym to run ???? on the treadmill.
Before I knew it, it was 7:12 am, and I was jogging ???? slowly on the treadmill, easing into my run.
Then, at 7:16 am, I began scrolling through my content library on my #iPhone, reviewing some of the titles of my journal entries as I prepared to read the first title that caught my eye!
Three minutes into perusing through my content library, the title "A Visit to Roosevelt Island" grabbed my attention, so I clicked on it and started reading ?? it to help pass the time.
After reading about and reliving my beautiful experience on Roosevelt Island, I thought it would be nice to share portions of this journal entry as my latest article; instead of not posting on this rainy ? Saturday in October.
So with that in mind, this weekend's article begins with me gliding into Roosevelt Island via the tram ?? to visit Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) Four Freedoms Park, and to get my Saturday jog ???? done.??
Oddly enough, I've never been to Roosevelt Island, so as you might expect, I was thrilled and ready to explore the island like a tourist. Let's do it!
After gliding across the Queensboro Bridge on the tram ?? with four other passengers into the Roosevelt Island Tramway Station, I hopped off and walked to the Roosevelt Island Welcome Center.
When I arrived at the Welcome Center, unfortunately, it was closed, so it was a good thing I had done a little research on the island beforehand and had a good idea of the places I wanted to tour.
As a result of my research, I learned that there are many fascinating things to see on Roosevelt Island, including the FDR Hope Memorial, the Smallpox Hospital, and the aforementioned FDR Four Freedoms Park, to name a few.?
Since I had already mapped out my sightseeing and running route on the way to Roosevelt Island, I already knew I wanted to visit the FDR Hope Memorial first.
Next, once I got my bearings, I made a beeline in that direction, filled with anticipation, curiosity, and, of course, ready to take some of my signature pics! ??
In a matter of minutes, I was standing in front of the FDR Hope Memorial sign, getting ready to walk ???? inside so I could get an up-close view of the memorial. Let's go!
After taking a couple of pics ?? and speaking with a lovely couple who told me they were also visiting Roosevelt Island for the first time, I resumed my tour.
My next stop ?? would be at the historic Smallpox Hospital building.
By the way, the four people you see in the photo below are the same folks that rode on the tram ?? with me to Roosevelt Island. We ended up having another pleasant exchange, and I discovered they were fellow New Yorkers and also visiting Roosevelt Island for the first time. Lol!
Now back to my story! ??
Okay, folks, at first glance, the Smallpox Hospital looked a little spooky ?? to me, and as I got closer to the building, I stopped for a moment to read ?? the signs attached to the black fence surrounding the hospital, which provided some great insight.
So after reading ?? the signs and viewing the Smallpox Hospital building, I started making my way towards the furthest point of Four Freedoms Park, where the Franklin D. Roosevelt Monument sits.
Also worth mentioning, when I looked across the East River, I spotted ?? the Red Cursive Pepsi-Cola sign, another well-known landmark you will find alongside the river in Long Island City, Queens.
After taking the shot ?? of the giant Pepsi-Cola sign, I continued walking toward the end of the park and bumped into a K-9 Patrol Team which I thought was a bit odd.
Shortly after that, I figured it was time to go, and I began to exit the park.
Closing Thoughts
Well, friends, it's time for me to begin my planned six-mile run ???? around Roosevelt Island, which will soon have me running alongside the East River and completing my run at the entrance of the F-train subway station.
Indeed, I thoroughly enjoyed our latest Saturday stroll together via my words and signature pics, and I want you to know that the pleasure was all mine. ??

2 年Anthony Sledge I’ve been to Roosevelt Island a few times but did not see all of the sights you mention. But I did go to the Panorama Room this week (in the Graduate Hotel) and had the most fantastic views of NYC and spectacular sunset! Don’t miss it next time you go!!
