?It's one of the beautiful natural wonders Located on the Kenyan north coast 30km from Malindi town. The depression derives its name from the high temperatures recorded during the day, which range between 35 to 50 degrees Celsius. Because of this, visits are encouraged to best be done early morning or evening.

Visiting the place at sunset is best not because of temperature only, but when light falls from different angles, it sparkly braze colors of the beauty gorges making them more colorful and beautiful.?

The sandstone is very loose and easily eroded by rainwater and every five to ten years the walking trails are moved with the changes.

According to scientists, The depressions were formed by soil erosion over thousands of years and the erosion is still ongoing.

But locals have it that it was formed as a result of God’s punishment towards a rich and extravagant family,?The myth is that a rich family that lived at Marafa would indulge in bathing in valuable cow milk. God, furious at their excess, punished them by opening the ground beneath their home. the white and red stones are said to be milk and blood, black rocks signify the people, purple, their clothes and brown, the earth.”

This is one of the places you should never miss during your visit to the Kenya coast.
