Visit to Agri Lands in Dharapuram

Agriculture is the major occupation of India. We have read it in our Geography text book many times. Yes, it is. The Agriculturists are making our lives easier with their hard work. Indirectly, I am an agriculturist too. This picture taken today morning at my native place called Dharapuram, which is around 80+ Kms from Coimbatore. It is located on the way to Madurai from Coimbatore. 

It's been a sad story in the last 3 years and this year Almighty has blessed with good rains. Unfortunately we lost more than 200 coconut trees in the last year. With plenty of water available, we are thinking for an alternative crop.

A new responsibility on my shoulder due to the sudden demise of my Dad two months ago, has made me visit our native frequently and I am learning from it.

This picture taken in a field around 10Kms from our Town, where I visited few farms today to see various crops being cultivated. The one in picture is Onion. Had a chance to see beetroot, tomato, ladies finger and few more crops being cultivated there.

It was a great day of learning since early morning, as I visited many farms where different crops are being cultivated. A sad end to many of our coconut trees is teaching me a new lesson in life and I really enjoyed my day today with the Farming community.

There is a major shortage of manpower to work in the field, that's where I see the current youth should think of applying technology to improve the quality of farming and also the lives of farmers. I would like to continue writing more about Farmers, Farming and the technology for agriculture in my next articles shortly.
