Visioneering is For The Brave
Paul Kearley
Working with organizations in solving their leadership and management effectiveness crises.
For as long as there have been people speaking a language, there have been people courageous enough to look at their current surroundings and situations and realize that it wasn’t good enough and then to dream and vision what could be.?
These are the people who would rather be visoneers and create their future in their own minds before they set out on their journey towards success.
And the people we know about today who create and set their vision are no less courageous than our ancients; they just have more options available to help them achieve success.
I’ve discovered that everyone has a dream or a vision of what they would like to see happen in their own lives; the sad thing is that not everyone shares those hopes and possibilities of their dream with anyone.?And it is the brave and the stubborn person who doesn't get swayed by the harmful opinions of those who just don’t “Get it” and forge valiantly towards their dream.?
Braver still are those who have the vision of an almost unimaginable goal who share it with others and set fire to their hearts and imaginations so as to create the same fire in them as they hold for themselves.?
For example:?
"I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space."
― President Kennedy, Address to Congress on Urgent National Needs, May 25, 1961
Many people criticized Kennedy for this totally outlandish vision.?They said it couldn’t be done… until it was.?
Or this one:
“Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy.
Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.
Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksand’s of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.”
― Martin Luther King, Jr.

This vision is dripping with sincerity and possibility. Can you imagine living in a time like this where people were living in hatred of others because of the colour of their skin? That’s insane! But in spite of all that, King had the foundation of courage to speak his dream out loud in one of the most moving and powerful speeches I’ve ever heard.?
So, as you sit and try to imagine a better workplace, a stronger home life or a peaceful world, get out a clean piece of paper, and re-imagine what could be in your world.?Allow your imagination to be open and flowing and think about what you want to have or be.?Then get busy and create!?
A visioneer is someone who thinks of doing what others say is impossible.?They are the ones who say, “Watch me” when others say, “it can’t work”, or “it’s never been done”. They are the ones leading the charge into the abyss of the unknown, burning both the boats and the bridges of the impossibility thinkers. They’re not always the most welcome people in many circles until they’ve done what people said before couldn’t be done.?Isn’t it funny that it’s usually then that people start to believe in them??
Have the courage to step out from the status quo and boredom of everyday living and become a visioneer. Dare to create a future that’s never been done before.?
That's how you make an Impact.
