The evidence shows that the ocean is dying faster each day, but yachting industry experts say it can be controlled and managed sustainably.

The global yachting/marine industry faces several threats and challenges, including environmental concerns, new unpredicted regulations, high operating costs, and the need for highly skilled labour.

As experts say, additionally, fluctuating economic conditions can impact consumer demand for lifestyle and luxury goods and services, including yacht charters and sales. Pointing out these challenges requires collaboration between industry stakeholders, environmental groups, and policymakers, to ensure the sustainable growth of the yachting and marine industry.

During the recent interview with the award-winning SuperYacht Captain Kelly J. Gordon on the YachtHeroes Show and HAPPY iDEA SHOW below is her preeminent insight.

Show Host Happy Bains Questions:

What sustainable procedure do you take? Any recommendations for other captains and crew to protect Mother Earth and the Ocean?

Honourable Captain Kelly J. Gordon Answers:

The number one is plastic. The number one is the use of plastic on board, so and look and it's hard to be to get away from any using plastic, but one of the things that I've implemented on board is no more, no more plastic water bottles. It's all reusable water bottles are, also in the process of putting a really advanced filtration system on the boat so that we can take our water straight from the tap. And do not have to worry about that.

So that, in things like plastic anywhere, anywhere we can eliminate the use of plastic on the interior. My students are really good about making sure that the cleaning materials that she uses are biodegradable, eco eco-friendly. The guys outside are about it. They're like and I was really proud of them.

They like they took this on their own. I have a lot of my crew come with me for a long time and one of them at the time he was deckhand, is my first officer now, but as a deckhand, he took it upon himself and he was like, hey, he researched a bunch of chemicals that he was using on the Teak and, on the paint and that kind of thing. And he said he came to me and he said, hey, this is what I want to use. This is more eco-friendly, this is more biodegradable.

And so everything that. They use on deck is friendly to Mother Nature and so yeah, so we do our best to where we can Obviously it's kind of hard rather than a fast boat that guzzles the fuel.

But you know we tried to do what we can. You know another thing that I was very adamant about too was we have a pretty healthy fishing program. Very adamant about the way that they fished, you know, clear down to making sure that, you know, any garbage line got out of the water so that birds weren't ingesting or other animals weren't getting tide up into it.

Or that, you know, if we're going to fish and we're going to keep fish, were going to eat it, you know? So a very by-the-book kind of fishing program I'm really adamant about and they've done a great job with that!

Embracing sustainable practices is crucial and key for the long-term viability of the yachting industry to make the YachtHeroes the movers and shakers of the Yachting Industry!
