Visionary: A Very Viable Value

Visionary: A Very Viable Value

Written by Dr. Renee Streeter , DVM, DACVIM (Nutrition)

As we have discussed in previous articles, it is absolutely essential that you identify your company’s core values. It’s what you want your team to live by and helps align team members so they know what to expect. We’ve already discussed BSM Partners’ first value, “The We.” Our next core value is “Visionary.”??

As a group of consultants, being visionary is imperative. It is what allows us to foresee future trends and opportunities and help shape those opportunities into something our clients and our team can use to thrive. Being visionary means seeing beyond the horizon and inspiring others to move toward it.?

The behaviors that exemplify being visionary include:?

  • Having foresight?

  • Constructing the narrative?

  • Having “big picture” thinking?

  • Being innovative?

  • Being iconoclastic (which is also one of our core values)?

Here at BSM Partners, we are really, really good at creating pet foods, treats, and supplements. We could continue creating consumable pet care products armed with the knowledge gained with years of experience, communications with hundreds of clients and distributors, and time spent at conferences learning what’s new and upcoming. Or we could take it one step further.??

We have started implementing a proprietary tool to capture and compile our teams' collective knowledge and insights. This allows for a quantitative assessment of our conversations, what the market is looking for, what trends are coming, and what to avoid. This innovation, called BSM Aperture, gives us foresight into the future of pet care as driven by both consumers and industry experts, allowing us to have iconoclastic views and construct the narrative. It is an example of “big picture” thinking, which allows us to help our clients in ways we couldn’t have done as efficiently or effectively in the past.??

Visionaries don't wait for opportunities—they create them. They are fueled by passion, guided by purpose, and driven by a deep belief that what lies ahead is worth the journey. That is why this is one of our core values.??

Taking core values to heart aligns and compels people forward. When we focus on being visionaries, though, we not only help our company grow, but can help other organizations and individuals see things in a different way, which allows them to expand on their potential and create products that truly serve the best interests of us and our pets.?
