This realization sowed the seeds for Klas. “There was Zoom, but people were confusing video conferencing with live training,” Nathan explains. He envisioned a platform specifically designed for live training, not just video meetings.

Nathan’s serious contemplation of Klas began in 2020 amidst the global pandemic. The pandemic accelerated the adoption of digital solutions, and platforms like Zoom became ubiquitous. However, Nathan noticed a niche that was yet to be adequately addressed. “I saw how fast Zoom was growing, and the idea I had came back… I could start something in the live training market because Zoom wasn’t doing it well,” he says.

With a scholarship to study software engineering, Nathan was faced with a choice between continuing his education or diving into his entrepreneurial venture. The pandemic provided a unique opportunity to focus on building Klas. He decided to defer his admission and devote himself entirely to learning the necessary skills. “I used that time to teach myself front-end design and product design,” he mentions.

Building the?Team

A pivotal moment in the creation of Klas was finding the right co-founder. Nathan spent nearly a year searching for someone who complemented his skills. “I knew that if I tried to learn backend development, Klas would never be launched,” he states. His search culminated when he met his co-founder through a small project. Their collaboration marked the beginning of Klas’s development.

Finding the right co-founder was a critical step in Klas’s journey. Nathan acknowledges that this process was fraught with challenges. “I had five co-founders before the current one,” he admits. Each partnership taught him valuable lessons about the importance of alignment in vision and work ethic. It had to work,” he emphasizes.

He sacrificed social activities and immersed himself in the project. “I stopped going out, I lost weight… I was locked in my room for weeks, focusing on Klas,” he recounts. This level of commitment was crucial in transforming Klas from an idea into a functioning platform.

The Role of Passion and Obsession

Nathan distinguishes between passion and obsession, highlighting that his obsession with Klas drove him to go the extra mile. “There’s a huge difference between passion and obsession. People who are obsessed about something are ready to do anything,” he asserts. This obsessive drive ensured that he remained focused and persistent, overcoming numerous obstacles along the way.

Launching Klas

Klas officially began development in September of the previous year. The initial phase involved extensive ideation and planning. Nathan and his co-founder built the platform from the ground up, eventually moving away from using third-party tools like Zoom. “We stopped using Zoom for classes and built our own infrastructure, payments system, and community features from scratch,” Nathan explains.

The platform’s launch was met with positive feedback and rapid growth. Investors like Tala, who recognized the potential of Klas, played a crucial role. “Tala noticed us on LinkedIn and loved what we were doing,” Nathan recalls. Their support and investment were instrumental in scaling the platform.
