A VISION FOR SYSTEMWIDE EDUCATION IMPROVEMENTS & FEDSPACE IS BACK!
The Foundation for Education Development
Dedicated to the belief that long-term strategic education planning is vital to the success of countries and citizens.
This week the Department for Education announced that two new expert panels will be tasked with advising the Government on how to make mainstream schools more inclusive. Tom Rees will Chair a panel that will advise ministers on how to improve mainstream educational outcomes and experiences for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and Professor Karen Guldberg?has been appointed?Chair?of the?Neurodivergence Task and Finish Group?that will aim to drive support for neurodivergent children and young people in mainstream education and increase understanding of inclusion.
Stakeholders welcome the focus on inclusive education and recognise the important role these panels will have in addressing these critical issues. Over the past four years, we have conducted extensive consultations, gathering invaluable insights into the challenges and solutions needed. We invite you to join us at two upcoming, free-to-attend FEDSpace roundtable discussions on inclusion: From Representation to Transformation: Embedding Inclusion in Education and Education Reimagined: Neurodivergence at the Centre.
At the FED, we are concerned about the approach to governance that supports long-term decision making. For decades, the education sector has faced the challenge of short-term strategies and fragmented decision-making. At the FED we believe it’s time to make the change.?
Our vision, informed by four years of extensive consultations, research, and collaboration on global, national, and regional scales, lays the foundation for a transformative approach to education governance.
Our recently published FED National Education Consultation Report 2024 highlights the urgency of adopting a governance model that aligns education policy with long-term societal needs and aspirations. The cornerstone of this vision is a bold yet practical set of proposals designed to future-proof our education system and deliver sustainable, systemwide improvement. Our new governance model for education includes:
Our vision is not just about governance - it’s about creating an education system that is resilient, inclusive, and prepared for the future. This gap in strategic planning has left our schools, colleges and education system reactive rather than proactive, often struggling to meet the demands of an ever-changing world. By implementing these proposals, we can close that gap and lay the foundation for meaningful, long-lasting improvements.
The FED is proud to continue?to support the Bett Show, as well as FED's valued Core Partners exhibiting at the event. This year, FED Chair, Dr Carl Ward, participated on the panel entitled "Cut through the hype on AI: A panel discussion on innovation, impact, and policy". This was especially topical given the project work already being undertaken?by FED and its FED Futures Partners entitled "FED International AI in Education Futures",?which will deliver both a data driven report?and an interactive AI toolkit for teachers and learners globally.
