Vision, Plans, and Infrastructure for the Future of West Virginia

The mountains of West Virginia feel like magic to many but creating the infrastructure for visitors to enjoy and residents to thrive is a labor of love, knowledge, skills, teams, funding, and decades. The four-lane King Coal Highway, planned to span 150 miles through McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Wyoming, and Wayne counties in West Virginia, promises to bring improved access, safety, and economic development to the region.

Working closely with the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) and the West Virginia Division of Highways (@WVDOH), E.L. Robinson Engineering Co. ?is the Prime Consultant for the King Coal Highway Corridor Management. Check out the details of these game-changing projects below.

KING COAL HWY CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT

As the prime consultant for the WVDOH, ELR is providing services to expedite the planning, design, and construction of the remaining sections of the King Coal Highway Corridor.

Our experienced team is responsible for everything from investigating, applying for, and obtaining feasible funding sources like grants, to exploring realignment to uncover available coal seams (layers of coal deposits that can be mined for coal and/or natural gas), and producing a realistic financial plan for the entire Corridor.

We have a massive team involved on this project, including three subconsultants (Michael Baker International, Summit Design and Engineering Services, CTL Engineering, and The Thrasher Group), and as many as 14 ELR pros. We are all in and eager to bring this vital project to a masterful conclusion. But this isn’t where it started! Read on to learn about our earlier related work.
