VISION, MISSION, VALUES and HR STRATEGIES

In recent times, we seem to have forgotten how important the vision, mission, and values of an organization are in developing business strategies, marketing strategies, and more importantly, HR strategies. A recent interview for the recruitment of a Head of HR and Head of Customer Experience role showed how people have neglected this really important trio as a starting point for developing strategies.

In today's dynamic business environment, developing effective HR strategies is more critical than ever before. One of the most important aspects of developing successful HR strategies is having a clear understanding of the organization's vision, mission, and values. These three elements provide the foundation for developing HR strategies that are aligned with the organization's goals and objectives. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of vision, mission, and values in developing HR strategies.

Vision:

The vision of an organization is a statement of what it wants to achieve in the long term. It is a statement that defines the desired future state of the organization. Having a clear vision is essential for developing effective HR strategies, as it provides a direction for the organization to move in. HR strategies that are aligned with the organization's vision will help to ensure that all HR initiatives are contributing to the achievement of the desired future state. For example, if the vision of an organization is to become the industry leader in innovation, then HR strategies should focus on hiring and retaining employees with innovative skills and creating a culture that fosters innovation. HR initiatives such as training and development programs that support innovation and recognize and reward innovative ideas can help to create an environment that supports the organization's vision.

Mission:

The mission of an organization is a statement of its purpose, why it exists, and what it does. It is a statement that defines the organization's reason for being. Having a clear mission is crucial for developing HR strategies, as it helps ensure that HR initiatives are aligned with the organization's purpose.

For example, if the mission of an organization is to provide excellent customer service, then HR strategies should focus on hiring and retaining employees who are customer-focused and creating a culture that values customer service. HR initiatives such as customer service training, employee recognition programs, and customer feedback mechanisms can help to ensure that the organization is delivering on its mission.

Values:

The values of an organization are the principles, beliefs, and attitudes that guide its actions and decision-making. They are the core principles that define the culture of the organization. Having clear values is critical for developing HR strategies, as it helps ensure that HR initiatives are aligned with the organization's culture.

For example, if the values of an organization include honesty and integrity, then HR strategies should focus on hiring and retaining employees who demonstrate these values and creating a culture that values honesty and integrity. HR initiatives such as ethics training, whistleblower protection policies, and transparency in decision-making can help to ensure that the organization is living up to its values.

In conclusion, the importance of vision, mission, and values in developing HR strategies cannot be overstated. These elements provide the foundation for developing effective HR strategies that are aligned with the organization's goals and objectives. HR initiatives that are aligned with the organization's vision, mission, and values can help to ensure that the organization is moving in the right direction and achieving its desired future state. Therefore, it is essential for HR professionals to understand the organization's vision, mission, and values and to develop HR strategies that are aligned with them.
