A VISION FOR INDIA’S FUTURISTIC PARKING SYSTEM

Wohr Parking Systems has always been at the forefront of imagining the future urban mobility and envisioning futuristic parking ideas. The future is promising but challenging too! Many relevant aspects will have to be considered. These changes will be experienced first in big cities. But eventually, Tier-2 and smaller cities will have to be ready to accommodate them. This was captured well in an interview. It has also underlined Wohr’s thought leadership in the field of parking systems.

Wohr is growing at a consistent rate and so is the market Mr. Sandeep Kulkarni, our honourable Vice President: Sales, shared his views in an interview with the renowned magazine of Construction Times. Presented herewith, are the excerpts and the highlights of this interview. Mr. Kulkarni said that Wohr is growing at a rate of around 40% year-on-year and the overall market scenario is also the same. When askedabout the fast-growing urbanization and the space crunch, especially in Metros and Tier-1 cities, he said increase in numbers of high-rise buildings, IT parks, residential complexes and malls is one of the root causes. Aspiration of the common man to own a car and easy availability of the car loans, also result in more number of cars on road and thus making the issue of parking even more complex. He suggested, municipal corporations should allot open spaces at various locations such as parks, metro stations, cinema halls etc. and allow public parking to avoid traffic congestions. He further added that in remote areas and Tier-2 cities where the space crunch is comparatively less, projects can be clubbed together to achieve maximum ground space for puzzle parking.

The emerging trends and the novel concepts in parking systems

While throwing light on the emerging trends of parking and giving pragmatic solutions to challenging scenarios, he said combilift or stack parking which is commercially known as puzzle parking is the in thing today. He reiterated the fact that if the puzzle parking is not possible, tower parking will be the ultimate solution. But one must also evaluate the capital expenses, running and maintenance cost against the normal conventional parking, he explained. He also clarified that MLCP is widely misunderstood as automatic parking but it is basically multi-level car parking. He further elaborated that all the systems are tailor-made as per the building situations, however puzzle and stack parking are available on a modular basis and hence can be installed later
