A Vision for Digital Inclusion: Addressing affordability and access to bridge the digital gap.

AXIAN Telecom 's vision for digital inclusion is at the heart of our mission to create a more connected and inclusive future across Africa. Through our Data4All initiative, we aim to reach 11 million additional active data users by 2025—a 96% increase compared to the end of 2023.

Key Actions

Our approach includes a focus on affordability, digital literacy, and promoting local and adapted content:

  • Affordability: We are working to lower smart device prices and increase data service accessibility. By distributing 417,000 devices in 2023, we have made significant strides in expanding digital accessibility.
  • Digital Literacy: Our investments in programmes to improve digital literacy include deploying the GSMA Mobile Internet Skills Training Toolkit in Togo, which reached tens of thousands of customers in its first days and contributed to digital inclusion and community empowerment.
  • Local Content: We promote local content by creating services like Moozik, a mobile music application featuring the largest Malagasy catalogue, supporting local artists.

Case Study: Targeting Women to Reduce the Gender Usage Gap.

Our flagship CSR program in Tanzania targets women and digital literacy through the Girls and Young Women Empowerment Programmes JOVIA, in collaboration with NGO Apps and Girls . In 2023, we became a partner for deploying the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI), which operates in 11 African countries. This initiative has trained around 300 young women annually, including Aslatu Nguku, who created Mamahealth, a web-based platform to support pregnant and newborn mothers with personalised health information.

Through these targeted efforts, AXIAN Telecom is bridging the mobile internet usage gap and empowering individuals and communities, paving the way for a more connected and inclusive future across Africa.

This is great news. Female entrepreneurship is clearly becoming a fuel for growth across Africa, yet Mobile Internet consumption lags behind that of men. By supporting and empowering young women-owned SME's and tech innovators in Africa by improving their access to mobile internet and other connectivity services, AXIAN Telecom is truly Connecting the Possibilities!
