Vision changes
At the Hannover Messe 2019 there were numerous vision technologies to discover. This shows the change that vision is currently undergoing.
A renaissance of vision technologies is currently taking place at the Hannover Messe. Around the robotics theme park in Hall 17, numerous suppliers of machine vision (Basler/Silicon Software, Cognex, MVTec, Stemmer Imaging...) and optical metrology (Creaform, Faro, Gom, Hexagon, Zeiss...) - some of them for a few years already - once again exhibited with smaller stands. But also in Hall 6 - all around the topic Industry 4.0 - vision technologies will be in focus at Adlink, Advantech (at the Intel booth) or Hexagon, for example. Also in Automation Hall 9 at the booths of PLC suppliers such as B&R, Beckhoff or Omron or at the booths of (vision) sensor suppliers (Balluff, ifm, ipf, Leuze, Pepperl+Fuchs, Sick...), which, however, can be found in significantly higher numbers on a SPS IPC Drive. At a trade fair with almost 6,500 exhibitors, it is also not impossible to find previously unknown vision technology companies, such as Neadvance from Portugal or Dataprophet from South Africa. Both come from the AI sector, and were not the only exhibitors to present their algorithms in interaction with vision systems at the fair. Also companies like Gestalt Robotics, Intel, Moonvision, Pixolus etc. showed vision solutions based on AI. In hall 16 the focus was on 5G, and there were also vision technologies to discover. Zeiss presented an application in which a 3D sensor transmitted data per 5G from a robot cell. Hexagon also presented a 5G application with a measuring arm. There were also numerous exhibitors from the 3D and robot vision sector (Attentra, Euclid Labs, HD Vision, Isra Vision, Micro-Epsilon, Photoneo, Roboception, Tofmotion, Zivid...).
Conclusion
It is exciting to see under which different aspects (industry 4.0, robotics, AI, automation...) vision technologies presented themselves at the Hannover Messe. This shows which range vision technologies now cover. As a precaution, I am therefore planning an additional day at the Hannover Messe 2020 (20-24 April).
