A winning combination for engaging & memorable content
In a recent post, I wrote that…
Without Clarity your messages are invisible
For once, they are invisible because you can’t put thought to paper and your thoughts vanish into the abyss of your busy mind. Or you struggle to organise, structure, and express your thoughts in a way that captivates your audience and delivers a memorable message.
The result is the same – your content is bobbing around in a sea of flat and uninspiring content, drifting here and there but never reaching its destination.
But what if you could write engaging and memorable content?
In this article, I’m going to share a few tips that help you to lift your content from obscurity to impact.
Tip #1 – Define Your Objective
Every piece of content that you write should support your overall business strategy. If content marketing is part of your business strategy, then every piece of content should contribute to your progress toward your marketing goals.
Every piece of content has the job of increasing your visibility and impact.
With that in mind, you need to define the job that every piece of content must do. There are important jobs like:
When you start writing with a clear objective, then you can create content that fulfills its intended mission.
My objective for this article is to educate and inspire you to write effective, captivating, and compelling content.
Tip #2 – Define Your Message
Once you have defined the job that you want your content to do, you need to define the message that you want your audience to take away from consuming your content.
The message that I want to bring across with this article is for you to understand and value the importance and power of clarity and simplicity and how they can amplify your visibility and drive your messages home with your audience.
Defining a clear call to action is part of that. Think about what you want your audience to do once they have read your content. How do you want your audience to walk away from your content?
With your content on their minds or hopping on to the next piece of content without giving your piece of content another thought?
Use the power of the CTA and PS! Your readers leave with your last sentence – make it a good one!
Tip #3 – Organise and Structure

Your content should flow logically from beginning to end. That requires you to use a clear structure that breaks down information into digestible chunks and organises them in a logical order that leads toward the message that you want your audience to take away.
There are many proven content structures that you can use. Structures where each section builds upon the previous one leading your audience toward a coherent understanding of the message that you want to convey.
I also recommend using headings, subheadings, paragraphs, and bullet points to break down information so that your audience gets an overall understanding of your content by skimming your article and only reading the headings and subheadings.
That allows them to make the quick decision to dive deeper into your content.
Tip #4 – Break Down Complex Information
If you?need to share intricate or complex information, then it is helpful to break down the information into bite-sized pieces. Consider whether your audience is subject matter experts or students who are diving into a new realm of knowledge.
That has an impact on the language you use. For newbies, avoid jargon, technical terms, and complex vocabulary that could confuse them. Bring the language to a comprehensible level and adapt your writing style to their abilities.
It doesn’t mean that you have to dumb down your content, it only means that you have to simplify it to guarantee better understanding and allow them to learn.
Tip #5 – Cut Out the Fluff
Cluttered content can reduce clarity and overwhelm your audience. A good editing process is your best friend. It ensures that you follow the 4 C’s of writing:
You can do that in a multi-step editing process that includes assessing your article against your plan, checking the structure and for unnecessary sections, paragraphs, choice of words etc.
Proofreading and editing are too often neglected and yet they are the two things that lift your writing from mediocrity to quality.
In Closing…
Following these five tips doesn’t add a lot of time to your content creation but they elevate your writing from bobbing around in an underpowered inflatable rowing dinghy to stepping onto an engine-powered motor yacht.
Clarity and simplicity are the fuel that takes your yacht past the bobbing dinghies.
If that matters to you – send me a message and we can talk about how you can get on your content superyacht.
