Do Local Businesses Need to Be Online?
Let’s talk about localized business and offline visibility.
Basically the old adage: location, location, location. But I would say it’s not only the location of your building or your office. Consider where your vehicles are parked.
We were just talking with one client here recently and recommended they consider parking their vehicles over the weekend in specific spots so they would get more attention. By doing that, they’re getting free advertising if they take a few minutes and drop off a vehicle.
What if You Do Not Have a Physical Location?
We’ve seen this work in some cases. If you don’t have a physical location, then at least put some lettering on your vehicle. Put something on the very back like, “Need help with marketing? Give me a ring.” And then put your phone number.
Mine says, “Got a marketing coach?” And then it has the website. I recommend a phone number. People can text you at a stoplight. You’ll find that there will be some good return on investment from vehicle lettering.
Does this Work for Every Industry?
Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances where vehicle lettering is not appropriate, like if you’re working with government agencies.? Certain industries like insurance agents are also very cautious about that kind of thing.
There are other industries where it just doesn’t make as much sense for them. I’m an extrovert, so I like to get the name out there.? If nothing else, at least put your company name, even if you’re not putting phone numbers or other details.

What about Offline Visibility?
There are a lot of different strategies to make sure you’re physically visible. We’ve seen signage on the side of vehicles or buildings, and teardrop-shaped flags that wave.
I can’t even keep up with the names of all these different flags, waving balloon people, and the myriad ways to capture people’s attention. You can get wraps on your vehicles, and put waving signs on your buildings.?
How Do You Get Visible in Person?
There are times when meeting a client locally is necessary and appropriate. In choosing a meeting place for a client or prospect, make sure that it’s super easy. I’ve started to meet less and less at Starbucks because there are so many.?
It’s hard to find the physical location of exactly the one at which you want to meet unless you create a calendar invite with the precise address. This will eliminate frustration and improve your relationship with the prospect or client. Both help with you being visible.
