Virtual MSK Radiology Fellowship

Virtual MSK Radiology Fellowship

We are offering a virtual MSK radiology fellowship. ARISTRA is a young radiology start-up company founded by sub-specialized radiologists. Our vision is to provide all patients with the highest radiology standards and quality reports possible wherever the images are acquired.

Hospitals, radiology departments and private radiology groups worldwide can now apply for a virtual MSK radiology fellowship with ARISTRA. We will look at your radiology practice and assess whether your institution is suitable for our virtual MSK fellowship or not. The main criteria are motivation, language skills (English or German only) of potential fellows and the minimum amount of daily MSK work available at your institution for teaching.

If your institution qualifies, one of your radiologists becomes a "fellow" and will enter the program. The fellow has to be board-certified in your country. Every day, that fellow discusses all or selected MSK studies with our experts.

Meet your teacher:

The fellowship director and your primary teacher is PD Dr. med. Christoph Agten. He is our expert MSK radiologist, internationally well-known for his outstanding teaching activities on his MSK radiology YouTube channel, the largest dedicated MSK radiology YouTube channel. He published a best-selling MSK radiology book on Amazon and has published over 40 research articles on MSK radiology.

He did an MSK radiology fellowship at the University Hospital Balgrist, in Zurich, Switzerland and worked there as a consultants for many years and did a research-focused MSK radiology fellowship in New York at NYU (New York University Langone Health).

The fellow will learn:

  1. MSK radiology on a new level.
  2. How to apply research to daily reporting and why it is crucial and makes a difference
  3. How to become faster and more confident with reporting MSK studies.
  4. How to tackle unclear and borderline findings that are never discussed in books and presentations.
  5. How to adapt your institutions MSK MR protocols to maximise quality
  6. How to apply structured reporting in MSK

Move knowledge, not radiologists

The Coronavirus crisis has been accelerating the use of remote learning and working by a decade. The acceptance of remote work has substantially increased. Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings are now an integral part of many companies daily work schedule - even in radiology.

  • Home office during lockdown? No problem!
  • Remote MDTs? No problem!
  • Case discussions between radiologists remotely? No problem.

Technology allows us today to provide world-class radiology education globally, without the VISA struggles and travelling issues, from the comfort of your home institution (or home office if you are lucky enough!)

The problem with traditional fellowships

Traditional radiology fellowships are hard to get access to, especially the more prestigious ones. In most countries, fellowships do not even exist! To get accepted at a world-class institution for a radiology fellowship, especially in the United States coming from the outside of the U.S. is challenging and can only be achieved with extreme dedication (#USMLE), personal connections and luck. Radiologists with family and kids may not be able to relocate at all.

With our virtual MSK radiology fellowship now all institutions globally have the chance to

  1. provide an MSK radiology fellowship
  2. get an advantage in talent acquisition
  3. provide their radiologists with a world-class education and improve MSK report quality and speed and ultimately improve their patients' musculoskeletal health.

Why us?

ARISTRA was founded in 2019 on the principle that quality matters. It is a company by radiologists for radiologists. Beforehand, many of us worked long hours in hospitals that did not provide the means to focus on what matters: quality. While most of our team was subspecialised and fellowship-trained, many were not able to entirely focus on the topic of their choice, and work-life balance was disturbed by on-calls, nightshift etc... you know the drill.

With ARISTRA, we are creating an environment where we can work the way we want and focus on the topics we are most interested in.

As experts, we can help our patients, but by sharing our knowledge, we enable more radiologists to help their patients to have an even bigger impact!

We teach the "real stuff"

Once Dr Agten started sharing his MSK radiology knowledge on YouTube, he realised that the impact was substantial, and people actively wanted to learn from him. Not because he is showing the same 30 Powerpoint slides for the last couple of years in every meeting, or citing research studies like many Radiology Professors all over the world do, but because he is teaching the "real stuff" - like in a reading room, chatting with a resident or fellow. That is exactly what our MSK fellowship program will provide to your institution and your fellow.

Reviews

Imagine how your radiologists can benefit from ongoing daily 1on1 teaching over the course one year ??.

Improve your game

Let us show you how the virtual MSK fellowship will impact your practice, by sharing how something simple like structured reports can improve your reports' quality.

For example, in an MRI of the knee: By simply dividing your description part of the report into four sub-sections:

medial compartment

lateral compartment

intercondylar compartment

patellofemoral compartment

you can substantially increase the readability or the report. Why? Because it is the same way, many orthopaedic surgeons perform diagnostic arthroscopy and write their surgical reports. Therefore, you mirror your referring doctors approach to the knee and his way of thinking. The surgeon will find the relevant information in the MRI report much faster, and the report looks very organized - all the time.

How it works

The virtual MSK radiology fellowship is a longterm collaboration between an institution and ARISTRA. Together, ARISTRA and Dr Agten will work with your appointed fellow over the course of 12 months. The workflow is 1on1 case-based teaching, using the real cases that the fellow is reporting during that day and based on the learning, he/she can adapt his/her reports. The cases will be anonymised and exported to our full data protection compliant cloud PACS, where Dr Agten and other teachers can look at the original DICOM data. This is achieved through the installation of a DICOM node in your institution. Our experts only get in contact with anonymised data.

Through screen-sharing, the fellow and the teachers can see the same images, discuss subtleties and resolve all questions the fellow has and make the fellow aware of pathologies he missed and help with description and interpretation. This enables the fellow to write complete high-quality reports every day.

This collaboration is live during the working hours of the fellow, 3 hours every day, Monday to Friday. Think of it, as if Dr Agten would be in your institution and sit with the fellow at a workstation and discuss the cases - just remotely.

What you get

  • 3 hours per day 1on1 teaching in MSK radiology by Dr Agten
  • The fellowship is available anywhere in the world
  • Minimum fellowship duration six months, ideally 12 months
  • DICOM connection to ARISTRA's secure and data security and protection compliant cloud PACS with a zero-footprint viewer

Additional services

In addition to the 1on1 fellowship experience, we offer our institutional partners further services, if required.

  • MSK MRI protocol implementation, optimisation and acceleration according to the newest guidelines and techniques with the inputs of our expert radiologists, such as Dr Agten and MRI specialists like Bac Ngyuen, who is working with ARISTRA
  • Live lectures and group teaching for the staff and residents in the institution.
  • Full integration of Agten Radiology educational material for the staff (Masterclass and exclusive video access, books and live-streams)
  • Access to the international expert network of ARISTRA with leading radiologists in all subspecialties for second opinions through the already included DICOM node.
