Virtual Event Trends Every Event Organiser Should Know About

This information in this blog post has been taken from our EventMind podcast, episode 3 which you can listen to here

In this blog, we want to highlight a few virtual event trends that we think event organisers would find helpful to help keep a competitive edge in this current climate

  1. Customizing and personalizing your content

To put it in perspective, imagine you’re organising a large food show you’ve got suppliers, vendors, sponsors and buyers on the other side; those buyers might work in particular sectors within the food industry, they’re looking after chilled foods or maybe they look after the ambiance category.

What you should do as an organization with our help is send those buyers, personalized content and resources that are relevant to them, this as an organisation would heighten the attendee experience that will lead to great customer feedback, repeat custom and good publicity. You are competing on the basis of experience.

Remember: personalising content is effective.

Forget the tech and the aesthetics its essentially all about the experience, basic tasks make all the difference, whether that be including their personal name on an email or even as simple as posting. It makes all the difference. Personalised content is a proven trend that drive results, it helps grow relationships with the people that matter (03:55)

When running a networking event customization and tailoring is key, not only for attendees but sponsors too. Tailoring platforms help you create an intimate room between a certain speaker, influencer, author, audience member and highlight that sponsor during that room which then will benefit the event organiser as that brings in a whole set of members to attend and network. A real-life scenario of tailoring and sponsorship is Love Island (08:27) they have tactically matched the right sponsors and partners to that demographic of watchers and successfully did it, this is something virtual events need to adapt to despite the type of organisation you are, there are always way to create a collaborative community experience for both sponsors and attendees to maximise the benefits to both parties and create a better overall experience.

2) Data

Regardless of the type of virtual event you are planning and facilitating – that data is really valuable and again personally analysing that data and personalising the choices and decision you do with that make a result, for example when registering their interest with an email address, at that point in the journey there should be questions that can help you tailor them into a specific “bucket” that way you can customise your marketing techniques to everyone in that same “bucket” – this example can help you as an event organiser with your pre and post marketing alongside all the benefits you’ve gotten from personalising that data. This data generates a better experience for them, as you will get better feedback – it’s crucial that event companies are data-driven.

3) Real time changes and response

Nowadays it’s all about being “proactive” instead of being “reactive” which is true but there is also a benefit to being reactive, virtual events are never straight forward and the chat box of your virtual event may not be talking about the topic you’re engaging with, it’s about tailoring and changing the content in real time, being reactive.

Summary

All in all, its about being reactive, open to customisation and tailoring your content and knowing when and how collect data to grasp accurate experience feedback to better your virtual event.
