We are seeing a transition with data beeing something in the corner of a basement to becoming one of the most valued assets of a modern company. With new technology emerging and data becoming SOA oriented as Data as a Service (DaaS) is it possible to virtualize an entire datawarehouse? Read my blog post on the manner here.

9 年How much business history you need to credibly analyze where you're headed (e.g. spot/predict trends etc.)? How much details, how fast? Do you want to store and query historical Big (internal) Data in your core systems? What if you need to replace a system tomorrow? ... Virtual DW actually means no phisycal DW, only "DW-like" access to core data. DW based on Data Virtualization is not a Virtual DW - it only uses this new technology to provide enhanced access to heterogeneous data (sources). Btw, Teradata introduced Virtual Data Marts alrady in the 90's (no physical marts, only access structure to the core DW behaving like a true Data Mart).
