Virgin Atlantic is seeking an injunction to stop strike action that could cause travel chaos over the Christmas period. The Professional Pilots’ Union, which represents some 300 Virgin pilots, launched the industrial action after the airline started negotiations with rival union British Airline Pilots’ Association over benefits without consulting the PPU. The airline says it is seeking an injunction to squash strikes starting on December 22 and planned through to March. ? Here’s what people are saying.

UK travellers heading to the EU will need to apply for a new travel document from 2021. The European Commission has confirmed Britons will not need a visa but, under tightened controls that also apply to the 61 non-EU countries that currently don’t require visas, will need to get a European Travel Information and Authorisation System document. Applying for an ETIAS is expected to take 10 minutes and cost €7 for three years. Both the UK and the EU are aiming to provide visa-free travel after Brexit. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Protesters took to the streets in France for the fifth consecutive weekend but numbers are dwindling. Authorities reported some 66,000 “yellow vests” joined forces across the country this weekend — around half the number of last weekend — while in Paris the level of violence was noticeably less intense. The easing of tensions comes after President Macron announced an increase in minimum wage and cuts to some pension taxes. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Spanish prosecutors have charged singer Shakira over tax evasion worth £13 million. The Colombian pop star is being accused of listing the Bahamas as her official residence when she was in fact living in Spain, where tax rates are much higher. The pop star was last year named in the Paradise Papers, the biggest leak in history that saw the release of 13.4 million files relating to the workings of the tax haven industry. ? Furniture chains are catering for millennials who are more “do it for me” than DIY, reports The Times. IKEA has introduced a range that doesn’t require screws or bolts, while home furnishings retailer Dunelm offers self-adhesive vinyl that looks like tiles — no grouting required. Home Depot has even released a YouTube video on how to use a tape measure. The trend comes as a recent study found one in 10 millennials would rather pay someone to change a lightbulb for them. ? Idea of the Day: Businesses must embrace a new philosophy of meaning to attract and retain the talent they need to grow, says Imperative’s Aaron Hurst.

“We are in a new era, where employees are looking for more from their work experience — one that is optimized for meaning and personal fulfillment, and encourages development and authentic relationships.”
