Viral Christmas gifts and a unicorn

Viral Christmas gifts and a unicorn

Hello!?Hel Reynolds?here, with some comms inspo to tickle your brain.

Fun week for us this?week -?we've been looking at new offices, working with an?incredible web genius, and counting down now to the relaunch of our incredible new?Comms Creatives Academy.

Let's do this.

Comms Creatives content of the week

COTW this week comes from the fabulous Amy Walker from Wrekin Housing Group, one of the talented grads from our recent?TikTok Crash Course?and alumni of our?Social Media Strategist?Course.

This is an absolute belter of a TikTok.

It's not easy to know how to present your brand on TiktTok when it's a fun and glamorous consumer brand, never mind a housing association!

This shows a sophisticated understanding of what works on TikToK.

And it's an innovative approach to content that lots of brands can be inspired by.

There are a few elements to this TikTok that make it so effective and engaging:

  1. Its timely, people are talking about Christmas and now is the time they're thinking about buying presents.
  2. ?A big issue that is driving conversations on social media is the cost-of-living crisis and this video is addressing this issue head on.
  3. ?The format is presented in a cool concept giving their audience advice but not in a preachy way!

Organisations often have a lot of info to share and can fall into the trap of constantly telling people what to do.

Sharing messages and dishing out advice is fine and always well intentioned, (we want to help our audience to live happy lives) but can come across as

  • constantly nagging (do this, don't forget that)

or

  • teaching your granny to suck eggs (yes, we all know it's cheaper to wear a jumper than put the heating on)

This video tackles the topic of budgeting and financial hardship?in a way more creative way.

Of course housing associations offer fantastic advice and services to people who are struggling, but on social media people don't necessarily want to talk about their finances publicly.

Much better to start a conversation that is?relatable, fun and interesting.

Instead of?telling their audience something they already know, they suggest?a new way of looking at it - the five-gift rule that's affordable and sustainable.

It makes you think - would I do this??Could I??So many people will have an opinion on how much to spend, what kind of gift to give - and they love expressing their own perspective.

Start chats not announcements

Think less about giving advice but more about starting conversations!

You have to brave yourself to hear different perspectives, strong opinions and disagreement in the comments - but that's the point of social media, right?

It's not a broadcast medium, people want to have their say.

So give them something interesting, and perhaps even divisive, they can talk about.

Make it a discussion, not a lecture.
