Read on for some behind-the-scenes here:
As I prepared to step onto the stage, my heart was pumping so hard I thought it was going to burst out of my chest.
I had been preparing for this moment for months.
Since the invitation to speak at the TedX event at TEDxGVAGrad , I had been thinking, writing and rehearsing.
But it was more than just a talk I had to prepare for.
It was my life’s work, until now, that was coming to life.
It was my very personal journey that I was ready to share with the world.
And it was the impact that I want to make that I was laying out for all to see.
So yes, my heart was pumping and my hands were shaking.
My worst fear was having a complete blank and just staring at the audience, like a deer caught in the headlights. This had happened the previous day at rehearsals.
I inhaled deeply, took my fear by the hand, and walked on to that stage.
My speech flowed. I knew what I wanted to say. It was my life’s work after all.

As I exited the stage, adrenaline still pumping in my veins, a few hands grabbed me.
The words were a haze of positivity thrown my way.
I had done it!
A few hours later, as the adrenaline high was finally dropping to a low, an email popped into my inbox.
?I just wanted to reach out to express my sincere gratitude for your talk at the conference, it was particularly inspiring to my husband. The jobs he has worked in the past have been a means to an end rather than something he finds fulfilling. Over the past 5 years, we have had many conversations about finding a career path that would both suit his skills and be something he's passionate about, but he has never really had an idea of what that could be.
Then he listened to your talk.
For the first time in his life, he felt a motivation to actually do something specific with his career. The idea of for-profit companies acting as a force for good AND doing well financially really spoke to him. I think it is important you know that by choosing to get on stage and give your talk, you planted a seed of change in at least one person in the audience that could potentially change the course of his entire life.
As I finished reading, I realised I was crying.
Knowing that I have had a positive impact on just one person makes it all worthwhile.?
But I do hope that my talk will have a positive impact on many more.
Any likes, comments and shares would be so much appreciated to share this broadly.
You are the heroes of my story!
Thank you for reading, thank you for watching and thank you for being here!
