Village Values: Own It

Village Values: Own It

At this point in the pandemic, some of us are taking measures we never imagined—all out of necessity. Entrepreneurs and college students are moving back in with their parents, friends are canceling weddings, and colleagues are even cutting their own hair! As community bankers, we are processing more SBA PPP loans than we ever thought possible.

I shared in Parts 1 & 2 of my Village Values series that our values are the product of my dad’s story and career, my story and career, and the foundation of our Village. The Village Values are the drivers behind our passion for growing our Village while holding steadfast to the organization’s core.

Village Values: 1. PUT RELATIONSHIPS FIRST 2. EARN IT EVERY DAY 3. OWN IT 4. BUILD SOMETHING SPECIAL 5. DO THE RIGHT THING

Own It” is our third value. Own where you are. Be strategic in what you know and what you can control. The economy has changed. The way we do our job is different. These are times of uneasiness. I’m here to tell you: That’s more than OK. You are not failing.

Be courageous as you look to do your job differently. Take matters into your own hands and own your place in the market and your company. Being part of the solution is a great place to put your energy and combat the fear we are all feeling right now. Your commitment and accountability to owning these things will pay off.

Our Villagers own their responsibilities and are invested in the work that it takes to achieve the goals we’ve set for 2020. Owning it also means that our Villagers are accountable to each other. There’s no second-guessing each other because we know our Village will get the job done. We’re owning it right now. It may feel like we are moving backward at times but instead, we perceive the goal differently and look for new ways to achieve.

Simply put: Villagers are personally invested in our community, our customers, and our Village. Villagers care about people, our work, and the outcomes. Villagers are accountable.

If your business is looking for a community bank that owns it and is accountable, please reach out to me at [email protected] so we can meet and I can learn more about what matters to you and your business!
