Village Values: Earn It Every Day

We sure are earning it every day, aren’t we? Aren’t YOU? 

As I’ve previously shared, our Village Values are our guiding light. The values are how we live our lives at our Village. They're how and why Don, our founder, built this Village and they're the driver behind my passion for growing our Village while holding steadfast to the organization’s core, its heart, and its foundation.

Earning it is tough. Earning it can feel like, “Haven’t I already done this?” and sometimes asking the question, “How many more times do I need to earn it?” 

Earning it can also be an opportunity. Earning it can be a chance to show your preparation, your determination, and—my favorite—your grit. There is nothing wrong with persevering on the days you need to because you can. Sometimes earning it can be as simple as driving the extra mile to buy from the local restaurant rather than having a national chain deliver to your doorstep. Sometimes it’s donating money or not hoarding toilet paper when you are just as scared and uncertain as your neighbor is.

Today our Village is earning it and I could not be prouder. As the President, I am watching our Villagers execute as problem solvers and financial partners to our local business owners. Sure, this is the role they have always played—and played well, but today it’s at a completely different level. It’s life or death, job or no job, company surviving or not surviving. 

I’m also proud to work for a Village of clients that are earning it for their businesses and their families. I am blown away by the amazing things that entrepreneurs are doing in our communities right now from moving their business into the digital world to coming together to show how much stronger we are as a community.

Earning it simply means stepping up and achieving over and over, not because you have to but because you want to. It’s in your DNA. Earning it today amid the global dynamic is our way of proving once again: banking can be local. Actually, community banking can be pretty darn amazing.
