Village Values: Do the Right Thing
The last few months have given our world plenty of opportunities to do the right thing—flatten the curve, speak up about the issues of equality, provide millions in financial relief for businesses. The path to doing the right thing has been one that I have always followed and will continue to follow even in difficult circumstances.
I’ve shared in my Village Values series that Village Bank’s values are our guiding light. These Village Values are how we live our lives and make our decisions at our Village. They are how and why Don, our founder, built this Village, and they are the driver behind my passion for growing our Village while holding steadfast to the organization’s core, its heart, and its foundation.
Do the Right Thing is our fifth and final value. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. Choosing to do the right thing is not always easy and definitely not always popular, but it is what I will always choose.
Our Villagers will always do the right thing for our Village too. If they don’t know an answer, they will be transparent and say so, but then they will put in the time to find out. If something doesn’t work out as planned, they learn from the results to do it better the next time. If they are neck-deep in PPP, they will still make the time for a conversation. These are the right things to do.
Simply put: Villagers do what we say, and we follow through. Villagers are responsible and accept the results, both good and bad. Villagers honor our values, and we seek a better way.
