Viksit Bharat becomes the biggest movement after Independence.

The first personality to whom I talked about Viksit Bharat was Dr. AP.J. Abdul Kalam and it was the early 2000s. We became friends, and I had a chance to meet him and stay with him and discuss many ideas for Viksit Bharat, but then he became the President of India, and we continued our discussions. In 2003, Dr. Kalam and I thought of building this movement but somehow, it didn’t happen at scale, and he had offered that I join him to build this, but destiny had other plans!

Letter from Dr. Kalam. the President of India

I kept sharing the idea of Viksit Bharat and, in the process, became friends with many political figures across the political spectrum as they liked the ideas on development. The golden period came in 2009, and then in 2013 (July-August) when I was called upon by my Guru, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, a renowned academician and former head of the Department of Physics at Allahabad University and the founding General Secretary of the BJP when he tasked me to start the work on the BJPs Election Manifesto.

That was an excellent opportunity to shape the future for the next couple of years, and I ideated path-breaking initiatives like the New Education Policy, National Health Policy, Digital India, Kisan Chanel, lateral entry in Civil Services, and many more. I don’t remember all of them, but I saw the power as a policy maker of how one line can change the destiny of 100s of millions for decades. Today, when I see the institutions that I ideated and the change we have created through them, there is a lot of personal satisfaction, and some people have spoken about it, like the RSS Chief, Dr. Mohan Bhagwat , and the then Governor of Meghalaya .

Still, in 2009 and 2014, when I drafted the election manifesto of the BJP, I was not confident if the Government would be able to understand the vision behind developed India. So, in 2018, I authored the book ‘Your Vote is Not Enough’ and dwelled in detail on whether we really have a vision for India. Following up in 2020, I wrote in detail about the vision for Developed India, and the book was titled ‘Tough Choices and Hard Decisions- Making India a Developed Country in the Next 25 Years’ . This was the first time in our political dispensation that I started sharing the ideas, vision, and the need for making India a developed country in the next 25 years. While the actual demographic opportunity will last only till 2045, it syncs well with 100 years of Independence to define the goal of developed India by 2047. Also, more than just the date for making India a developed country by 2047, I have done a detailed analysis in the book and given data on why, after 2047, we will never be able to become a developed country, and this is what I discussed with the Prime Minister and the finance secretary two years ago. All of us should not miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.

In 2020, Dr. Mohan Bhagwat released two of my books, one about Developed India and the other on education. Later, I gave Viksit Bharat a concrete shape and came out with a logo in 2021, and in 2022, I drafted the preamble to what it would take to make India a developed country (Viksit Bharat). I wrote to the Prime Minister in 2021 to adopt Viksit Bharat. Finally, this was adopted from the ramparts of the Red Fort in 2022, and in 2024, it became the main agenda of the election campaign. This is a mission-mode program, and it will require you to be an active participant I encourage you to read this document that became the trigger for making Viksit Bharat. Now, with every government department, every institution, and every ministry, drafting the vision for Viksit Bharat is my life’s biggest achievement as a policy-maker.

With Mr. T.V. Somanathan, Finance Secretary, Government of India

My goal is not just to limit it to India; every country that is an LIC or LMIC should adopt it to become a developed country; every state in India needs to have its own program to become a developed state.

I am super excited to have contributed to create a movement that will eventually become as big as, if not bigger than, the independence movement. I am sure that if Indians decide to achieve a goal like Viksit Bharat, we will do it. We have a great Prime Minister, Mr. Modi, and we must galvanize all resources to turn Bharat into Viksit Bharat.
